Looking at possibly getting my first can, intended use is a 260 Rem build for recreational (not competition) shooting, with possible future use on a 7mmRM. I know nothing about suppressors other than what I've read on Zak Smith's website, and that there's a fairly lengthy legal process to be approved to purchase one.

Suppressed Armament Systems is in Indiana just a 2 hour drive from my home, and their prices look to be fairly reasonable.

I did a search here on the Hide and found one recent thread about the Arbiter, where reviews were generally positive. To my naive eye, it looks like the extra $200 for the Arbiter over the SS buys you weight reduction.

I'm curious about SAS' reputation in the suppressor market relative to other manufacturers. I'm also curious of most think the Arbiter is worth the extra $$$ over the SS, and the real-world perceived reduction in both report and recoil. Finally, would most folks simply do the direct thread onto barrel, or do one of the thread-on muzzle break options?

Thanks so much for the insight...

Since you're so close it only makes sense to buy local. I have met Tim and toured his "old" shop, as I hear he has moved to a new one recently. My bro/law is a good buddy of Tims and he is a top-notch guy. I'm very happy with my SAS .30 can, I went with the 5/8x24, and 1/2x28 muzzle brakes so I can move from .308 to .223 rifles with the 1 can.

Re: Newbie question: Suppressed Armament Systems cans?

I have the Ti thread on and am very happy with it. To my ear (and those I shoot with), it's sound/tone on my 308 bolt gun is right there with some top tier cans. I tried it with thread adapter with my 16" AR and its performance was so so. POI shift is consistent and no discernible effect on accuracy. Overall, its a great buy for a Ti can. However, make sure your rifle is threaded with class 3 threads if you go thread on as that is how the cans are threaded.

oh and you may want to ask Tim if any local dealers have them in stock, as it seems he's had issues getting paperwork back in a timely manner from his nfa examiner.

You cannot go wrong with SAS. I have purchased their Ti QA 7.62 model and their Ti QA .338 model. Suppressors aren't cheap so I looked at and listened to some that a local dealer has on hand. I was sold. The QA versions of their suppressors really are beasts! Good luck!
