We had a Tactical Solutions barrel off of their lightweight AR 22lr upper in to be cut down and threaded. For those not familiar with these, they are basically an aluminum outer body with AR heavy barrel dimensions, dedicated 22 style barrel extension area, and a 0.310" steel barrel liner in the core. In factory trim they are 16" long and threaded 1/2-28. The owner wanted it 4" long and threaded 1/2-28 to shoot bulk ammo subsonic. The existing threads are cut into the aluminum liner and we did the same.

Ok, enough background. The issue occurs when I go to put a light chamfer on the muzzle. The liner pushed back about a 32nd, and when we started looking at it we also noticed that the liner had rotated about 10 degrees moving the extractor cutout out of alignment.

Surprise, surprise. We had assumed the barrel would have been bonded by some method the full length. It appears now that only the muzzle end was bonded. We pressed it back a bit for the pics. We'll refinish it then press the liner back into place.

Just an FYI in case anyone here gets one in to work on, or a caveat for you or your customers beforehand. If its old news I apologize.

Nah, it'll be fine. We'll reinstall the liner just like any other rimfire liner after we refinish (don't wanna epoxy it and then bake it). This was just an FYI in case anyone else gets one in they can watch out for it.
