Guys

Looking for a technical solution down under. Due to moronic ITAR restrictions, we can't source US made PVS22/26 equivalents down here in Australia. So, I'm looking at the less ergonomic/not as good solution of mounting a NV monocular behind a short(er) dayscope - potentially a Specter DR. I have no feel for the viability of this but thought the short, fat Specter tube with better light entry, wider FOV and generous eye relief might be a solution which could potentially work.

Anyone tried this, or does anyone have any thoughts on whether it would work ok?

Cheers

Re: NV monocular behind Elcan Specter DR?

In short, yes the DR works well out in front of a NVD. We did a review awhile back that can be seen here. http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=2&f=209&t=151915 The only reservation we had using a NOD behind the units was the NV settings. While usable at the first setting (dim) going to the next brightness was too bright. We have not worked with any of the newer released units, so maybe they have worked on the brightness intensities. The units clarity was very good with a NOD behind the unit as well as the FOV was quite good as well. Hope this helps.

Re: NV monocular behind Elcan Specter DR?

Hey Victor

Thanks for the steer. I'll check out the review. Have tried the monocular behind an NXS day scope but the illum was way too bright on the lowest setting, so that's a concern I have also - I note the DR specs indicate that the units are NV compatible.

The only other concern I have is the DRs zero holding capability (not during magnification switching but generally) but that's a whole other issue.
