Thought I throw out a Hail Mary

Got a classic MG I’m looking to move from the west coast up north, as well as a car ish size crate, any recommends on how to do this?

I’m game to rent a truck and trailer and drive it, but the MG doesn’t fit a uhaul car hauler

rather not pay some unreliable uship person.

Any good recommends?

Thanks

There are a bunch of classic car specific hauling specialists. I love Mg’s. Let’s see it

I’d rather not pay the specialist prices

Moving from one hangar to another while I was away, thanks AAA lol, needs to come home.

Frankly if I could find a rental flatbed and pickup I’d just take the time off and road-trip it me self

Have you looked into the pro classic car carriers? I dont know what the cost is now that the world is burning, but it used to be quite reasonable, fully insured, etc. especially considering your time, fuel costs, a rental vehicle and trailer etc.

One more thing, the classic car haulers are an industry unto themselves. These arent teenagers that once worked at fedex.

Spose it's too much to just get it running and drive it ?
Yes, I know Lucas electricals.
Originator of the 3 position switch......off-dim-flicker.
Plus dual SU carbs ;)

And giving moss motors your first born

She’s a fun never ending project, also my first car actually

Beck Arnley should still make most of the parts for that thing.
Rock Auto will carry the parts, they have good part prices but the shipping sucks.
Never built 600 of those junk carbs, it's was probably 800.
Best fix, Weber DCOE or DCOF.

BTW.
THIS is the place to get parts from....if you actually want to build it.
They are in jolly old England and do race car shit and street shit.

Always used these guys

Any good alternative to a uhaul?

They don’t rent the pickups one way, and for their little box truck and trailer it’s like $2200 and that’s not even with the 9mpg worth of gas.

I haul price depends on if they need trucks in a certain area, there are times it is cheaper to round trip stuff, you just have to check, MG is probably close to small and light enough that you could use a utility trailer with a ramp.

There is a fairly new thing where you can rent trailers from people. I can’t remember the name of the service. But it’s basically an Airbnb for trailers. Your neighbors trailer maybe?

Found it

Also look into Penske/Ryder for car carrier rental

Oh that’s cool! But seems it’s local rentals, which makes sense based on their business model.

How many miles are you going and from what state to what state? Apparently, Uhaul is not cheap when you are fleeing Portland or Seattle for greener pastures. If you have a pickup you could buy a trailer and sell it when you get where you are going.

Why won’t it fit on a uhaul trailer? I carried my 66 VW bug on one from MO to NC with zero issues. I can’t imagine the footprint being much different that that MG?

I would be more than happy to transport it for you. Just get me the truck and trailer and I'll make a sweet road trip vacation of it. Just gotta fly me out to the starting point and fly me home from the end point. This is not sounding very economical, but at least I'd take care of it. :)

And yes, an MG will fit a UHaul trailer... barely. I've done it. Just had to carefully get it on the trailer nice and centered, tie down good, and not bottom it out driving it up. I did so by placing the ramps on a curb facing the lawn of the guy's house and driving the car over the lawn onto the lifted ramps. We transported the thing about 200 miles with my Silverado when I had it (doesn't fit in my spot where I live now so no more truck).

That said, if it were mine, I would tow this thing on a dolly with the driveshaft off and a bunch of Track Armour tape covering the paint. Then I'd be able to use my Lexus LS430, no problem. I've towed heavier with a much smaller car... just need the weight of the towed item off the car.
