orkan with all due respect this is the justification and apologetic response that is so embedded in the dt dna. i wish we could get away from this and that the design would speak for itself and there wouldnt be a need for clarification as to why dt made this odd choice or why the such and such is a certain way. im sure the new design works just fine. but to me it comes off as "lets see how we can cut some costs and still charge the same amount of money and not address the real issues".

Some more DTA porn. Busted out the Duracoat and did the Premier and AMD mount. It's really great paint if applied correctly, very robust.

As far as the mag issue goes perhaps the surefire engineers can give some inspiration to the DT guys.

Way to sack up and throw paint to the Premier Sako Man! Nice work. :)

No offense taken Chubbles, as you are entitled to your opinion, but to say that I'm simply "encoded with dta dna" is not true. Ask Nick, or Ryan, or Mark, or Mike(ex sales VP), or Russ over there if I've screamed their head off on the phone before over some mistake they've made. I'm as objective as a person as you'll find when it comes to their behavior... and while I can understand you are wanting 10rnd mags, I fail to see how an upgraded bolt assembly which feels nicer and runs better that they are offering at no extra charge warrants someone wanting to eat their lunch.

If it's cheaper for them to make... fine. Doesn't bother me. I like the new bolt. It doesn't seem to stick out as far and just "feels" better. They aren't charging more for it... so boon to me and boon to our customers.

Something a lot of people don't know: DTA's production side of the house, is totally different from the R&D side of the house. What one does, doesn't slow the other down. So the idea that they should stop innovating wherever they can so they can come up with 10rnd mags, or MDR's, or whatever else... just lacks the perspective needed to see how things actually work over there.

I dont see anything particularly wrong with the new bolt, nor did I see a need to change it. But Im not a DT engineer either.
I do however understand chubbles'z inquisitive nature. There seem to be plenty of other areas of improvement that are being asked about.
But, whatever, DT seems to be growing quickly, and with that will come growing pains such as broken index pins, un-fashionable (to some) bolt handles, and stupid videos about shooting ipad's. I am in for the ride, Im just a poor guy who can barely afford ammo at times, and have been known to spoon my SRS in bed. I will likely not see any new DT products for some time, so I'll humbly rock the shit out of my old Gen 2 til death do us part.

nice to see some dta pics in here. i wish there was a thread dedicated strictly to srs porn.

orkan i dont think your encoded with anything. i can appreciate what your saying. im just an extremely passionate, enthusiastic, opinionated persion i guess. when i like something i love it. when i dislike something i want to destroy it. i love the original bolt on the srs. i wanted to write a letter to congress describing its virtues. i hate this new one. if one of those things is attached to my next bolt im going to rip it off, melt it down, turn it into some kind of kinetic hipppie sculpture and sell it to a tourist in park city. thats just the way i feel about it.

All manufacturers should be asking themselves a few questions.

1. How can I improve my product?
2. How can I increase production without compromising quality?
3. How can I streamline and cut costs without compromising quality?

I have no issues with a manufacturer putting out the same or better quality product for the same price even if it costs them less to produce the said product.

On a side note:

I just received an email from Desert Tech saying that all new orders of SRS Chassis w/ at least one conversion will include a free fitted pelican case. HTI chassis orders with at least one conversion will also include a free fitted pelican case. This deal is only good for the next week. I am passing this same deal on to my customers too while supplies last. It is a great time to purchase a Desert Tech rifle.

another thing manufacturers should ask themselves is:
-how can we get our award winning weapons platform featured on the hit tv series 'the black list'?

season 2 episode 1. tom keen likes the srs.

Does this look like excessive head spacing on these and are these primers flattening showing pressure?

Plenty of pressure there for sure. Ejector ring is very pronounced on that first one.

How about the head spacing
Tough to tell without measuring headspace before firing, and again after.

Those lines around the case can be caused by someone getting too aggressive when chambering the barrel and/or not having chips flushed properly.

If you really want to know if your in danger with the head space cut a case down the middle and look for thinning just above the web. If you see areas where the wall looks think then its because you have too much head space/volume in the chamber and the case is stretching too much. The horizontal banding can actually be caused by your sizing dies not having enough lube from the case? As well I have gotten that kind of banding with my sinclair case cutter, where the case is rotating inside the collet too much. If you do cut a case open just remember that the case is designed to be thickest near the bottom.

As far as the primers goes yes your at the upper limits of pressure. The craters in the primer are not so much a sign as the flattened primer is.

Maybe I've been talking to the wrong side of the house to get them to design and build a Left handed Rifle ?
As long as the bolts on the left side of the rifle, I don't care what it looks like.

Would be nice if desert tech would
shake the UK-dealer awake!
So that he can start communicate with his customers!!!
What a difference with orkan or a few other US based dealers.
They are doing their very best to statisfy their customers.

New bolt handle is integral to the bolt body so it will not be breaking off if you have a hard spill. Design costs money, and tooling costs money and if we hadn't figured out a way to produce them faster we would have had to buy additional CNC' equipment in order to produce enough of them. :)

We have a lot on the R&D stove and I know lefties and 10 rd mags are highly desired, heck I get hate mail all the time because we don't have them yet. Unfortunately we have limited resources and must prioritize our projects. One thing that really helps increase our resources is for people to buy rifles though. ;)

We do not stock OD green cases anymore hence the special deal so once the cases are gone the deal ends we are running it for one week while supplies last. :)

In need of a 20 or 30moa 4 screw dta mount, does anyone have any reasonable? New or used. The trusty dealer I have used for several purchases has a few but wants the same price as the new 6 screw with level. That's just dirty, they used to be 200ish now they are 375! They dun lost my business.

Wow thats harsh. I wish I had what you were looking for... I'd blow it out to you. I have one or two of the 4-screw mounts on hand, but they are 40MOA. What scope you have? If you can take a 40moa... I'll get it to you right.

Am I wrong?. He is telling me that he doesn't set the prices but the manufacturer does. I told him that I found another dealer, you Greg, that had them for the old price. If I'm going to pay 150 bucks more I will go ahead and get the 6 screw with the cool little level. I'm just trying to set both coverts up similar so easier working with kids. I have nf 5.5-22x50 right now and I am sure the 40 would work but not sure if I'd like they change in cheek weld plus with my add I might not have this scope.

I just checked and I have an SRS 30MOA mount still new in the bag. I also have the additional 30mm spacers that are brand new too. PM me if you are interested.

Sounds like you need to hire some more gun loving design engineers!! I may know a guy...

:)

I am wondering what people are loading and shooting. Any sold loads for the DTA in 338 and the 285 Hornaday HPBT?

1. Are any of you shooting 285gr Hornadays, if so whats your thoughts? I ask as this is the round I am shooting and will share experiences if I hear some feedback.

2. Is there a preferred and known bullet that works exceptionally well with the 338 DTA?

Input appreciated.

I'm running Bergers Hybrid OTM 250gr over 96.5grs Retumbo with a 0.030" Jump in Lapua Brass. Chrono'd at 2950fps with a ES of 8fps over 10-shots. 1/2-MOA at 300yds.

Well Greg has a new customer, thanks so much for helping me out, great talking with you.

Sako, I'm running the Hornady 285 HPBT's in mine. Absolutely LOVE that bullet. Running them at 2875FPS from my TS Customs 30" 1.250" in front of 93gr of retumbo. We run into the loads at 93-93.5gr usually. 1/4MOA and just SMASHES deer and elk.

Happy to do it sir! Thanks for the support!

great PORN PICS!! a carbon fiber mag would be sweet to have for these rifles, granted not some major weight reducing, but some.

I just received my DTA SRS A1 from Orkan and he really has gone out of his way to field late night phone calls and take care of me. I would highly recommend giving him a call for your DesertTech needs. If only I'd have ordered a week later I'd have gotten a case and goodies. Bummer.

Thanks again to Primal Rights for helping me out! I'll be looking at that suppressor in the next few months.

Your faithful customer in Colorado Springs, CO.

One thing that really helps increase our resources is for people to buy rifles though. ;)
You'll get my hard earned dollars when you produce a Left hand rifle.
I had four friends by your rifles after they shot mine and I sold mine to another friend. I tried my best to help increase your resources.
We don't hate you, we're just wondering why you have no love for the lefty's ?

DetroitRearView, I am also looking at a 22" 338 conversion. Would you care to share your load data including bullet type and velocity to help me crunch the numbers? Thanks

Hopefully it's gonna change for us. Monthly imports as opposed to 6 monthly, but I hear you. Been chasing since start of August and got as far as being deposit down and no delivery date.

No doubt ! I placed my order with Greg and had one in my hands within 3 months ...WITH added coating of skins in sniper grey and a TS Customs barrel !!!
Haha! Yeah, but the only reason that took so long was the major backlog of rifles at that point. These days, its down to a month with a custom barrel, and within a week to your door for factory parts. We also have several custom barrels in stock at all times, so those can be turn-key right to your door too. It takes less time to get a DTA right now than ever has been! DTA has been on the job hardcore to ensure we've got inventory. It's awesome! We've got over half a dozen SRS-A1's alone in stock right now, not counting coverts and HTI's.

I am also waiting for a left hand DTA-SRS.

I also wanted to thank Orkan for his help with my TS Customs 7mm LRM conversion. I bought this a few months ago and am headed back from an elk hunt in Utah. I took my Gen 1 SRS because I had so much confidence in it. I have guns (LH) from many of the high end custom gunmakers.

I shot a 1" 5 shot group at 500 yards with my TS Customs 7 LRM.

I shot a 350" bull elk this week off of a tripod with a Pig Saddle adapter at 525 yards. 1 shot. DRT. Feels like cheating. Weather was warm in SE Utah and bulls were all around but hanging in the trees which made the hunting tough.

I sighted in after I got to the ranch. I dialed and shot a rock at 650 yards. I then lasered, dialed, and center-punched a sub-moa rock at 923 yards. This gave me great confidence when I shot my elk. My ability to shoot long range greatly contributed to my success.

BTW- I also used my TBAC 30BA suppressor - legal to use for hunting in Utah and Texas.

Outstanding story! I'm glad the 7LRM barrel is working good for you. I expected nothing less, as we consistently see the TS Customs barrels producing ridiculously tiny groups and amazing performance at distance. You owe me a picture of that bull!!!! If it's a picture with your rifle in the frame, it might be worth something to you. ;)
