I really hope someone can help me identify the scope mount I have. I friend of mine in Memphis gave it to me around 1982ish. I have always shot iron sights with the M1A (hence the cheat sheet tape still stuck on the stock since Camp Perry in 82 or 83) but my eyes have change and I wanted to use it as a scope gun.

I have attached three pictures. The profile shot looking at the left side of the receiver shows most everything. There is one major thumbscrew that screws into the hole in the M1A receiver. There is also what may be a "crush" piece on the scope mount under its front leading edge on the left side that fits into the slot in the receiver. That is shown in one picture. Interestingly there is another threaded hole just aft of the big thumbscrew that had nothing in it when I got the mount. When I look through it, I see the left side flat of the stripper clip guide which seems like a pretty secure place for another thumbscrew to hit. There are two other smaller holes on the top of the mount that you can't see that are just above the blank hole. They don't really line up with something that would give support to the mount and are not threaded. The last hole in the mount is threaded and it is just above the opening in the stripper clip where you would fit a stripper clip. You can see it in one of the pictures. Looks like if you put a block or something in the stripper clip, a screw inserted through the scope mount would contact the new block put in the guide. I know that more contact points of the scope mount with the receive may be best and so it looks like this could possibly contact with the existing thumbscrew, a second thumbscrew aft of the existing that would contact the left side of the stripper clip guide and another set screw or something could come through the top of the mount and connect to something that would be fitted in the "jaws" of the stripper clip guide. Oh yea, and the "crush " thing that presently fits into the slot of the receiver!! I hope someone can tell me about this thing. One last thing. One would think that the rear of the scope mount would naturally rest on top of the stripper clip guide for support, but there is probably 1/16" clearance between the scope mount underside and the top of the stripper clip guide! Odd.

Hey. Thanks to all. Conclusion on this and the other forum is ART II mount but missing the second (rear most) thumbscrew! Rock solid on my match M1A. Very happy with several groups at 50 yards - the most we could get at a friend's house. A keeper for sure.
