This morning a SUV pulled into the driveway. It was one of our fellow 'Hide members, 'oldgrayone'. He arrived after driving through a nasty snowy highway on the way to GA. We took a look at the Sporty and fopund a few issues. Back to the SUV for a set of Crane Adjustable Pushrods, then into the bike with them. Fixed that particular issue. Lets fire it up! No-Go!
Fuel petcock needs to be replaced, that was the 'idle quality issue', so an Accel Petcock will be ordered shortly to replace the bad HD part.
Now the bad news: Seems there may be a worn bearing, shaft, or clutch/transmission, primary part.
We spent the morning in the garage with a double burner LP heater working on American Heat trying to bring her back to life. It looks like that rough ride from upstate NY was not only bad on me, it was bad on my favorite ride as well. When it warms up a bit(it costs about $20 to burn that LP heater for a half day), I can remove the primary and see what's up. 'oldgrayone' will be passing back this way in March or April and we can really see what the deal is if I cannot figurte it out at that time(major overhaul, or minor overhaul of an assy).
The good stuff? I met another 'Hide member and continue to let the world know that Hide People are just basically damn good folk.
Oldgrayone is now on the road to see if he can make Chatanooga to hole up for a night, then a short ride down to GA the next day. Panty 6 and I got a good smile knowing he is travelling with a belly full of grilled meat, sticky rice, and lemonade.
Again,
THANK YOU 'oldgrayone'!
