First of all I would like to thank everyone for the wealth of information on this board, and thank you in advance for any opinions & criticisms for my proposed setup for long range target shooting & hunting.
After all my research, and to fit within my budget:
Tikka T3 Tactical 300 win mag
Sako muzzle break
Nightforce NXS 8-32x56 Zerostop, MOAR recticle
Nightforce steel rings 1"
40moa tikka picatinny rail scope mount
Sinclair tactical bipod

Ammunition-
220grain Sierra match king HPBT,
Hodgdon H1000 74.5 grains (Ar2217 in Australia)
Federal primers

Cheers,

Cheers for the feedback.
Have a sauer in .30-06 & also a remington 700 in 308... So looking for the extra oomph. 338's are very hard to get here.
My shooting buddy is running his remington 700 sps tactical with the Nightforce NXS 8-32 x 56 Zerostop moar. I think I'll take your advice on the 5-22. Would love to shoot the mile... Our shooting property has targets out to 1200yards ATM. On the weekend, we were punching groups of around 12" @ 800 yards... So a bit of work to be done there.
MrSwede, the 30mm, 1" high steel rings.... Sorry for the lacking description.

Cheers,

Not sure how far you intend to shoot. The 40 MOA rail may be a touch excessive.

Also, as others have said, the 8-32x NXS doesn't have the adjustment range that the 5.5-22 or 3.5-15 models do (65moa vs. 100-110moa). You could be stuck with a 500-1000yd zero or something using that 40 MOA rail.

I personally have had the 3.5-15x50, and 5.5-22x56 scopes. For a long-range rifle I would personally go with the 3.5-15x. The 22x was more difficult to use at max power (think SFP reticle). Either way, they will both work with your 40 moa rail and they will both get the job done.

I assumed 1" was the height of the rings. Steel rings are overkill unless you are on a .50
Save weight where you can, trust me...
If you want the 30x high end mag, think Bushnell XRS for around the same price

Thanks for all the replies ;)
Currently have a sauer in .30-06, & a remington 700 in .308.
Looking for the extra oomph of the win mag. Can't get a permit to acquire for a .338 LM in our nanny country as they are a unpolitically correct 'snipers' round...
My shooting buddy has a remington 700 sps tactical in 308 with the nightforce NXS 8-32x56.
We were grouping 12" @ 800 yards on the weekend. Yes, a bit of work to be done, but it was fairly windy on the weekend.
Yes 30mm 1" rings...
Shooting out to 1200 yards on our shooting property ATM. Would love to shoot the mile. Think you are right on the lack of adjustment on the 8-32x56, as my buddy was maxing out on his 20moa picatinny rail..

... bohica...currently there are no tikka t3 tacticals' in 300 win mag in Aus, & they dont know when one will become available. i can get my hands on a tikka t3 super varmint in 300 win mag. so far i have been able to only find a few differences. stock not as adjustable by way of stock butt, no black phosphate finish.. & 1/2 an inch shorter barrel available, match grade cro-mo steel barrel- which i would probably change to a krieger on the super varmint down the track, & threaded barrel...what do you guys think?
