So I have had this rifle for over year and have taken it up to 500 yards with great results but never past that. I finally gotten around to getting the AAC muzzle brake installed and welded so I can use it with my 7.62SD suppressor. So I finally decided to stretch her legs 850 yards this morning. This is using my own handloads using CFE223 powder at 46.0 gr @2400 ft/sec with COAL 2.805" and WLR primers.

Needless to say the combination of my hand loads, rifle and the suppressor just working like magic. Conditions were pretty good today with winds no more than 5 miles an hour. You can see the picture attached but the five shot group measures no more than 4 inches at 850 yards. Needless to say after I shot this group I packed up my shit and went home LOL. I figured he just doesn't get better than this why ruin a Super Bowl Sunday :)

Congrats

That's amazing
I have the same weapon, but in np3

I would have definitely gone home too

Here is mine

That is awesome. Nice hits, I would have packed up and went home with a big ass smile also.

Cool story bro. I'm new here, but on most forums its considered rude to go around posting your stuff for sale in discussion threads. You aren't trying to help other members, your pimping you're shit.

Very cool Alpha. I traded my 20" barrel on my P308 for a 16" a while back and my first time out at 500 yards I had similar results to your 850 yard group. Needless to say I'm happy with it. I've never loaded for it but it shoots Copper Creek Gas Gun loads great. Nothing wrong with the 20 but the shorter barrel makes the rifle so much handier.

Bullshit, I thought I was the only one who could shoot groups like that HAHA. Oh wait that's not 100 yds. Nice job man. I love a short 308 and I love a POF. Put em together, you got magic. Nice work

Good looking rig with good looking groups. Damn now i want one.

I just think shorter barrels on most rifles tend to perform better. Yes, you may lose some velocity but what you gain in manageability and better harmonics (less whipping motion of the barrel ) is well worth it. My 300 win mag is 21.5" and is as accurate as a laser, my POF is 14.5" and hell even my 50 BMG has a 20" barrel. Lyn Schryver agrees with me that the Barrett M82CQ is way more accurate than and A1 variety just because of the 9" shorter barrel.

My POF P-308. Just got it a month or so or go have only had time to zero it in and fire a few groups that were about 1 moa.

Just got a POF-308 myself. Same 14.5" barrel with muzzle brake. Can't say I've ever shot it at 800 or gotten those results, but with match ammo and a 4 x scope I'm getting 1" groups at 100. A more talented shooter, with a bigger scope and hand loads could certainly do better. But 4" at 800? Maybe I don't need that bolt gun after all, just more practice.:)

I can tell you that shooting semi vs bolt is night and day. I started shooting precision semi about two years ago and first year and i mean shooting every weekend year (not shooting twice in one year) i was very frustrated. I could go out and print 2" groups with my GAP 308 at 500 yards all day but not shoot worth shit with a precision semi. But with enough trigger time, and figuring out how to drive a semi rifle it can get close but will never be a bolt gun. However, the advantages of rapid engagement cant be beat and ammo capacity of a rifle without doing a reload is priceless. What i have found is that if you get good at shooting semis, it improves your bolt shooting even more. However, if you only shoot bolt and are great, it does not translate to shooting a semi.

A big +1, I learned that the hard way. None of my semi 308's will ever come close to my TRG 22 or AIAW.

Awesome, nice shooting for sure. WISH I could get my POF-308-20 out past 300 yards. Tough here in MD to find a place. One of these days! What bullet were you handloading? What weight? For mine I found it loves H4895, 42.2, WLR, COAL 2.80 with the SMK 168 grainers.
Was this shooting with the gas system on semi?
Looking forward to the spring, will be making a trip to find a 500 yard range next!

Hello, I have a 14.5" POF P415 and I would also like to have the muzzle break replaced so I can have it suppressed but it is already welded to the barrel from the factory and I would like to know if it is possible for a professional gunsmith to replace it.

Yes, any decent gunsmith can remove the current muzzle brake and install and pin and weld a new one for you :)

I'm really interested in grabbing one of these, but I've read a lot about this rifle failing to feed rounds. Have you or anyone else with this rifle had this problem?

When I started using a suppressor even with the gas port set to "S" I would get stove pipes. Basically most of these ARs are over gassed particularly when you have load a hot rounds. Buying am XH heavy buffer fixed that problem right up.

Doc, very impressive shooting! It's encouraging to see the capabilities of the POF308. I'm currently building one up and was wondering what it's long range accuracy could possibly be.
Although I'm running the 16.5", Heavy buffer, and will install the PWS FSC30 muzzle break. Hope to gain similar results.

Glad you posted this info

Early on there seem to be a number of complaints about the POF P-308's having failures to feed and or eject. My friend had one that had to go back 3 times for both problems before it was right. Lately there have been very few problems posted that I have seen. That said my POF P-308 has run flawlessly.

I have heard/experienced and seen this also. The FTF issue. A quick call to POF solved that right away. Normally it is when the rifles are brand new. They come with a coating (forget the name), but if one cleans like the video they show on the POF website one will likely have no issues.

In fact, a dealer in VA had reduced the prices of his POF inventory due to the fact that he had several returns for this issue. Two friends of mine local who bought POF-308's after seeing mine had the same FTF issue. It is a matter of a DEEP clean prior to shooting for the first time.

Video shows a guy using a chamber brush attached to a drill motor, and gun scrubber. Really need to get the shipping preservative out of the chamber. Showed/Cleaned both of my friends rifles for them and now they EAT ANYTHING.

Have you experimented with the 168 SMK? Reason I ask, is awhile back a Marine Sniper on here mentioned that for my barrel length (20"), that the 175 SMK would be preferred. I still have yet to work up/experiment with a load.

I have used the 168SMK in this rifle and a 22" GAP bold 308 and was not impressed with performance past 500 yards. Minus availability, i see no reason to use 168smk over 175 variety.

If your shooting inside 500-600 yards the 168 SMK is just fine and maybe better since you can usually get them. Past that distance the 175s really start to shine. 168 AMAX on the other hand is another story. I like em just as much as the 175 SMK. I buy em both by the thousands. Cant go wrong with either. Good luck

Nice shooting Alpha

None at all. I am loading 46.0 gr of CFE223 powder and is packed tight so there is no way that bullet is setting back :)

So, I printed a .438 MOA 3 shot group at 300 yards, could likely be better but that is the shooter, not the load or the rifle. I did put a light taper crimp, I am only loading 42.2 and was a bit worried about the cartridges in the magazine unseating a bullet, even a little. What would you recommend? No crimp? I'm down with trying it with no crimp, would yield better accuracy for sure. Just a bit nervous and also still a novice when it comes to the reloading and this precision stuff.

I have never put a crimp on my bolt or semis ever and have not had an issue in the past. 42.2 of what powder? yes anything 1/2 moa is a good group but if you are using Varget you are probably in the lower accuracy node and need to come up higher. With Varget and 175gr bullets most people end up in the 44.0gr range give or take 0.5 gr on either side.

Varget did not print well for me. H4895, Varget and IMR4895 was what I experimented with. Was all I had in stock. The 4895 performed the best for me, but the H4895 was better than the IMR. So, CFE223 is your go to POF 308 powder? I'll check that availability. H4895 unfortunately has been out of stock everywhere. It is the most accurate powder I have for the POF, my T/C Encore 30-06 hunting rifle and for my Garand. What other powders did you experiment with?

Alpha,

Scored your target best I could. Guesstimated the one inch reference best I could. What a phenomenal group bro! If my bullet hole markings are off, please let me know and I will rescore. OnTarget Precision Calculator is what I used to score. I came up with .461 MOA! WOW!Alpha 850.jpg

Thank you for doing that. That is pretty much what i guestimated. I know the last index of my thumb is right at 1" and when i measured the two furthest points it was right at 4" and you also came up with pretty much the same.

I had this problem with mine at first, FTE's and resulting stovepipe. When I looked at the cases I would see drag marks on them, sometimes the extractor would rip the lip off the case. I took it to my local smith and we looked at it with his borescope. You could see the black coating that they use on the barrel, as well as some what looked to be salt deposits I guess from a salt bath in the chamder. He hit it with some polishing compound with brush and a drill problem solved. I have had no issues at all since, my gun is vary accurate for a semi .50 to.75 all day consistently, sometimes better when im on my game. I think if POF would polish the chamber before they shipped, most if not all complaints would be gone.

Next time all I need is a 1" reference. Or any reference.

Check that On Target software out, pretty cool stuff, easy to do also.

Very nice!!! I have a LMT mws....what bullet?

This whole thread is a lie. 308s, especially from a short barrel, fly sideways after 400 then actually move backwards and die from exhaustion around the 647 yard mark. What you need is a 6.25mmSuperCreedLapUltra Barrel Burner 4000 for them long snipery shots. Silly people from Florida

Is this Barrel Burner 4000 the powder of the bbl itself

can I get these in
Oakland Raider black
sniper grey
or tactical black????

Its the 175 smk

nice shooting ....its shows short barrel can and will group well at range ! sorry mr. golden gun you are done in again ....

That is outstanding. I have 2 POF 308’s and have always felt they are a very underrated gun. And while I have never gotten that small of a group I have consistently shot .75 MOA with 178 GR hornady Amax.
