Classic AICS Thumbhole Stocksides - Can a spare set be purchased separately?

I'm building out a 700 SPS AAC-SD and recently picked up an AICS 1.5 in tan. I'd like to get a spare set to have dipped in ATACS or Multicam. I see the pistol grip ones for sale everywhere, but none of the original thumbhole ones.

Post a wtb add and I bet you will get a set quickly. They come up for sale every now and again.

I have a tan set that I could sell you once I get my viperskins. It may be a few weeks though.

Coldblood, I did the same thing a few months back and the old style skins were sold out everywhere. The new style are available on mile high for less then $150 and fit on the same chassis. As far as the old style sides, you will have to get them used.

By old style vs new style do you mean the thumbhole vs pistol grip? Is AI going to a pistol grip on the AICS 1.5/2.0 in the future? I can't see them doing that, but it would be a shame if so. I really like the classic looks of the AICS.

Don't get me wrong....being an AR guy, I like a pistol grip as much as anyone, but a thumbhole stock gives me the same leverage/trigger control (which for me is the same reason I like pistol grips). I run thumbholes on a couple of my precision rimfires and everything else has a pistol grip stock of some sort...they both work just as well for me.

I like the AX too, but having an AICS is something I wanted since my dad had his gun shop back in the 90's. Knowing myself, I'm sure I'll do a 300 or 338 in an AX chassis later on down the road.

I actually called direct and spoke to a sales rep. I believe har name was Sarah, very pleasant Texax accent;)

Coldblood this is the new style, and if you take a look you can see the lines are not as smooth, the but hook is more open and pronounced and the skins are three piece sets and not one piece. I have both the old and new sets as well as the AICS pistol grip and the Viper skins. Of the four I put them in the following order, Viper skins, AI pistol grip, old style skins and then the new style. I just do not like the feel of the new style skins.

Or not... Seems I can't get any photos to post. But bottom line on the pistol grips is the Viper Skins have a better feel and a nice thumb shelf. And I prefer the pistol grip to the TH but the classic AICS TH has a very nice feel to it.

Ah...copy that. I just got my new 1.5 installed. It's pretty easy to see they streamlined the manufacturing process by making plastic skins so they can be configured for either the 1.5 or for the 2.0. I don't mind the busier look of these new style skins. The feel is good to go, for my taste...straight back trigger pull, finger indexes properly.

By "classic", I just meant thumbhole as opposed to pistol grip. I'm a "function over form" guy when it comes to my rifles, but I can't bring myself to ditch the thumbhole look on the AICS....maybe I'll try a set of Viper Skins once the novelty of having an AICS wears off. :D

ColdBlood, Once I tried the Vipers it was no turning back. Nice etched in thumb shelf and just the fit and feel... simply excellent. The AICS pistol grip skins are close but just not quite to the level of the Vipers.
