Price is on par with a used PSS, but I prefer using heavier bullets beyond 700 yards, and 8x57 has better pressures using 200-grain bullets when compared to .308 Winchester of comparable bullet weight.

It's the most I've ever paid for bolt gun, but it definitely was a deal that I couldn't refuse, and put me in the poor house. Looks like it qualifies as poor man's set up too.

I think that the threshold for "poor man's setup" is $1000. In general, I don't think that you are going to have a reliable system for less than that.

Between that and $2000 is more of a "thrifty man's setup".

It's still easy to buy worthless junk in both categories.

My $1000 setup (new prices) is a Tikka T3 Lite .223 stainless with the 1-8 twist, an EGW 20MOA rail, Burris tactical 30mm rings, and SWFA 10x SS. It also has an Eagle stock pack and Harris bipod.
