I don't know, I've watched it and while script writers may have thrown something in there inline with their world views, it's hard not to when writing. But the show is more about some coup that happened and it split the country and I'm not sure what happened to the west but they're all going north. To Canada.

The show was actually on for a few episodes before some disgusting politician brought it up to compare trump with. I found the underlying message and more importantly, the intentional manipulation of people's deepest emotions to be quite distressing and reprehensible.
