i volunteer at outreach centers after being recruited by a friend that organized a group of people from his church to feed the poor once a month.
we buy the food, cook it and serve it to hundreds of people. of course not since lockdown.
while i am not religious myself, i have noticed over the years at various sorts of places that the overwhelming majority of individuals and groups that help feed the poor are church-going christians (other than high school groups and folks doing community service).
so i don't know what the mass media has led you to believe, but in my experience, conservatives donate more of their money and time.

Also, the cost of living is massively higher in communist enclaves, so just comparing income is not apples to apples. What's more telling is per capita welfare spending, or the ratio between those who are working, and those who aren't and are actually getting cash payments in lieu of working. It is surprisingly low in even very poor states like LA, MS, AL, etc. No surprise at all where it's highest, but all the blue state paradises, and the more progressive, the more people are on welfare (CA, VT). It's almost to the point where every family with an income who pays taxes is supporting two who don't work.
Of course, since this Congress stripped out all work requirements we are back to the 1960s/70s democrat welfare states where people expect to be paid in perpetuity with no requirement to even seek work.

I don't follow the mass media, because I don't believe that's a source of truth, in any capacity. And for whatever I disagree with you on, let me - in this lucid moment - say that I respect you for reaching out to help people. I believe that you are probably quite sincere in your desire to help people, and I would hope that if I were in need, I'd be able to find that help, regardless of my situation.
That being said - I have lived in several major cities across the US, and I see far more outreach, even for causes that I, myself, would not engage in. Some of them are religious institutions - which in and of themselves, does not make the members conservative, by any means (plenty of ultra-liberal voters in churches - especially in Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Unitarian). Increasingly, what I find, is that groups of people are reaching out to "disaffected" peoples, to win influence. On the West Coast, in particular, there were many groups what would form homeless outreaches, and then use that to launch political platforms. Voter registration, protest organization, etc, etc. I don't believe that all of the efforts that exist, have pure intentions. I also personally witnessed several outreaches being co-opted by people, who hijacked one group's (naive) good intentions, and replaced it with their own personal crusade.
Churches have always taken up the mantle of community stewardship in the the US, since our founding. (even if at times, it was to recruit new patrons) But in modern times, this is increasingly a platform for the left. You can't work at a corporation these days, without being inundated with outreach recruitment, and liberal/progressives are always "reaching out" to this, that, and the other. It's half the reason that they're so well politically organized. How else do you sell such a ridiculous and self-destructive set of ideals to an entire populace?
