Go on record? Is this some legal proceeding? I like de Santis. I like Ben sasse. I like Ted Cruz but he has horrible political instincts. I don’t hate mitt Romney but he is a bad candidate. I like pence. He is quite competent.

I’m pretty much a team player when it comes to voting.

The only "insider" people I could come remotely close to voting for in '24 would be Paul/Massie, or Paul/Amash.

No fucking idea what outsider would garner my support, too big of a pool to wish from.

I agree with all that. He's the best since Washington, although Reagan may have made a stand if put in the position Trump was in.

But we missed the opportunity to fight from the high ground when he gave it up. I and others would have been as committed as those that fought at Valley Forge if he had stayed in as our leader.

I doubt we'll ever have that home field advantage again.

Eta- I'm sure he was threatened and his family as well. They, H.W. Bush, got to Pero when he ran by threatening his family. If they can threaten presidents and candidates to step down than whats the use of even having elections?

In order for him to get where he is he had to do swamp stuff.

I suspect him of swamp but willing to wear some MAGA as camouflage.

Im not sold yet.

I predict that in a decade or so, we'll see a similar maturing of conservatives' opinion of Trump as we've seen with Romney, McCain, and GW Bush. Time will prove his sole term to have been a practical disaster; at best, it'll be regarded as good intentions implemented with gross incompetence.

Since Trump was effective in ripping the veil off the Republican side of the Uniparty - hell, he might have inflicted a fatal wound on the GOP as we once knew it - we've at least reduced (but not completely eliminated) our chance of getting something like a Jeb/Mitt ticket in 2024. I'd personally like to see something along the lines of Rand Paul and Justin Amash... or better yet, the right finds its own version of Tulsi. But if they try to roll out another Uniparty useful idiot, or if the candidate is chosen based upon his or her ability to "own the libs" with a fierce Twitter game, I'll happily pull the lever for a 3rd-party candidate.

My two paragraphs are not in contradiction in the slightest. One can easily hold the views that Trump was ineffective at his job as president because of his poor leadership skills, and that he was effective at decapitating the GOP because of his personality and no-fucks-given methods (not to mention the fact that Jeb et al were a bunch of shitbums just waiting to get an ass-whooping by an outsider). If you can't reconcile these two ideas, I fear that the problem ain't on my end.

Trump had a unique (at least among modern politicians) anti-globalist agenda that I supported (unlike the agendas of Bush and Obama). I would have liked him to succeed. He didn't. That's not TDS.

As a president, I give Trump a 9.5 out of 10. His shortcoming, and as real estate baron that made it to the top through the corrupt commercial real estate / construction industry of NY, I'm surprised at his lack of vetting and reading people. One would think he could size someone up like Vito Corleone did his adversaries.

Why he put up with Barr, an obvious swamp turd with track record to prove it, I'll never know. Why he brought a nobody hypocrite like Pence into the White House is beyond me.
