I recently purchased a upper form a hide member.
He promptly sent it out via Parcel Post.
It is way over due and in tracking it is shows it being scanned and leaving one of their hubs.....then nothing, that was 2 weeks ago.
I hope it shows up at the sellers or I am screwed.
Beware of sending anything worth $$$ or you might end up like me.
Any "legal" suggestion would be appreciated.
Lost probably means fell off the truck into someones car trunk.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

I no longer ship Parcel Post for this reason. The last Parcel Post I shipped was not insured. It contained 3 boxes of Lapua bullets, each factory sealed, all wrapped in bubble wrap and taped very well in a cardboard box. Of the 300 bullets, 32 made it. The PO explained it this way:
1. My fault for not getting the package insured.
2. My fault for using PP instead of Priority.
3. Postal employees "do not take care of PP" like they do Priority.

I ate the cost of postage and returned all the buyers money.

If you ship, ALWAYS buy insurance! If you are buying, ALWAYS make sure the seller gets the package insured.
Bottom line is that the PO doesn't care what happens to any uninsured package no matter who was at fault.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

Hope it shows up. I've had a similar experience where the tracking got to a hub and then disappeared. It showed up but apparently took a field trip out of the way first. I think it ended up on the wrong truck. BTW, USPS tracking sucks. It doesn't show anything until the package is delivered in most cases. At least w/FedEx and UPS you can follow your package online.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

+1 on tracking.
Sold a member a scope. he sent payment via Priority Mail. Tracking status showed "Accepted at (local) office" on the date he mailed it for almost two weeks.
Then it showed up at my house.
Luckily, the scope got there with no issues.
I recently had a UPS package travel from MI to Atlanta, to Knoxville, to Atlanta, to Indy, to Atlanta and then to me in Bham. They kept showing it as weather delay on the tracking. Go figure!

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

Roy,
First thing I would do is chew out the person who sent any package "Parcel Post". That is the worst thing to do at the P.O. There is a reason "Parcel Post" is the cheapest way to send anything, it SUCKS. All this aggrivation so he could save a few bucks. You will get your package it will just take a while.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

I'm not a big fan of USPS because of their tracking sucks. That said, right now I'm waiting on a welder $2250 welder I snagged off ebay that supposedly got dropped off at the UPS store on the 26th to be shipped, according to the tracking # I've got they don't have it yet??? They say it doesn't start tracking until it hits the truck, I say put the MF'er on the truck! Fedex is the way to go, imo.

thats not gonna go over well... funny, but probably not the place....

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

Parcel Post??? Who the hell is the cheap ass dumbshit?
ATTENTION: IF YOU SEND ANYTHING FIREARMS RELATED SEND THE FUCKING THING PRIORITY AND PAY THE FREAKIN INSURANCE SO YOU DO NOT LOOK LIKE A DUMBASS

IF I EVER had anyone send me ANYTHING parcel post I would take the time and money to go whoop their ass for being stupid. Only an ignorant fuckstick would send anything out with anything less than Signature Receipt, Delivery Confirmed, or less than PRIORITY if it had any value over a few bucks. Shoot, even if it's only a few bucks it's still worth making sure it gets there.
I seriously hope the two of you learned a very valuable lesson in transactions.

The next individual who does this, well, you just might be the stupid one because you didn't pay attention to the lessons learned here today

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

The USPS "delivered" a Trijicon to my house despite my mail being on hold, and I never got it.

I had to eat the entire cost of the scope because the package wasn't insured, despite the fact that they weren't supposed to deliver it at all, but hold it for me to pick up.

I will not use the USPS any more for any packages. They can kiss my ass.

Seriously dude? What the fuck.

Though I appreciate you letting me know how much of an ignorant douche bag you are.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

I have never had any major issues with the PO. I always ship insured and Priority. Or if its small enough I go flat rate. I don't care if the buyer paid for insurance or not. Money was posted up and its my duty to make sure it gets there or refund so I am covering my ass. I shipped a Garand and the stock was damaged in shipping. Buyer kept the rifle then filed a claim with the PO and came out pretty good on the deal for a little bit of his time.

Now that that is said. I sold a rifle on the PX last month and it took the PO a month to get the POMO's from Alabama to Texas. They were Mailed when the buyer said they just got "lost" somewhere in route. Buyer sent them Sig required in a priority envelope.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

Here's what happens - people don't realize that everything (except registered mail) gets processed on automated equipment. With billions of pieces of mail every year it would be impossible to sort it all by hand. Your package or letter will get dumped like garbage out of a dump truck onto a conveyor system. It then gets processed on subsequent automated equipment, letters to a Delivery Bar Code Sorter (DBCS)
DBCS.gif

and packages to either Automated Package Processing System (APPS)
APPS.gif

or Small Parcel and Bundle Sorter (SPBS)
SPBM.gif

If it doesn't have a good barcode on it (or the operator keys it in wrong) it goes to a reject bin at the end of the machine. If it doesn't get off at the reject bin (on the SPBM) it goes off the end of the machine at the "waterfall". USPS advertises Priority Mail boxes and they say "If it fits (and doesn't exceed 70 lbs) it ships". Put 70 lbs. of metal parts in one of their boxes and drop it on the floor and see what happens. When packages are broken open they end up in one (or two or three) of three places: Nixies, Damaged Mail, or Open In The Mail sections. I saw an opened Priority Mail package in the Damaged Mail section that sat there for two weeks. It had 15 large, threaded stainless steel rod ends, really high dollar stuff. I called the 1-800 Post Office number to complain. The customer (dis)service rep told me I should contact my supervisor. I told her that I'm in maintenance and that my supv. would tell me that's not our problem. She didn't want to hear about it. I asked her if she'd like me to call the customer (printed on the damaged box) and tell them they have a package just sitting in the Damaged Mail section, and unbelievably she said "if you want to". I insisted she take down the info and pass it on to the powers that be, which she said she would. A week later it's still there. I called a local authority figure in the USPS and explained the situation. He told me (a maintenance mechanic) to put a note on the package saying "Attn. so&so" and that person would take care of it. A week later it was still there. I was tempted to deliver the package myself as it was addressed to my city near my home, but walking out the door with mail can get you fired. I finally did personally contact the business with info about their package and exactly where it was located in the processing and distribution plant where I work. The lady at the business said just the week before a Postal sales rep pushing Priority Mail had paid them a visit, and left a business card. The lady informed me she would be contacting the sales rep about their missing package. A week later and the package was still there. I went out on three weeks vacation and when I got back it was gone, but I wouldn't bet money it got delivered. And the USPS wonders why they're in the red?

They didn't lose it, they "misdelivered" it. It was reported as delivered in their shitty tracking system, but it was never actually delivered. My guess is that the delivery guy has a nice Trijicon 1.25-4x with Green Triangle on his rifle, or a couple of hundred bucks from having sold it on eBay.

It was maddening, that's for sure.

Unfortunately, after escalating it to the national level and several weeks of bitching and complaining, I was told "Yes, I understand that it was our error and that the package should have been held at the local post office, but we're not going to pay for it", and eventually I said fuck it.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

It's a disappointemnt to the customers when some care so little about the mail they are trusted with. Some are only interested in sounding like they care or looking like they care...when in fact, they care less! which is why they will never be out of the red. Even getting insurance in many cases doesn't mean that your item/s is covered(read the small print or ask the window clerk what is required to file a claim on an insured item or google it). So save yourself a big headache and use companies like UPS or FedEX. No matter where you go, if the item is important always have a tracking #, require a signature to confirm delivery and insurance... but take some time to ask detail questions about the service you will be paying for...for example: What would be required to file a damage or loss claim if neccessary? just my 2 cents worth.

We don't need the racist jokes.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

Had a scope go missing in the USPS system a while back. Insured for value. Got a second scope, just late. Not a good experience,I have yet to have problems with UPS. Knock on wood. Tracking is better. Not perfect but better. IMO.

Re: POST OFFICE "LOST" MY PACKAGE

it's the sellers responsability to insure unless specifically agreed upon that he offered and you declined or he doesn't have to purchase it. Otherwise based on the actual law he is liable until it's tendered to you. PERIOD.

I had a similar thing happen. Seller didn't insure it and it was delivered to the wrong address and never recovered. PO won't do anything because not insured and they considered it lost. Even though they admitted that it was delivered to the wrong address.

becomes small claims. unless you can find the higher up above your post master.

+2. Don't think that I could add anything that this post didn't already cover.
