Scope: Leupold Mark 4 LR/T on bader rings/base.

I have some 190 loads to test, but ran out of time today, might try first thing in the morning tomorow. I will also try to bed the action this week and see what that does. I will also add a pic when the ATF gets my form 4 back to me for a Spectrum-90.
Thanks guys, I've gotten alot of great info here so far!

It's a thread protector. The slot is to allow easier removal if it becomes overly tight.

Re: precision rifles... show em

Ok, thanks for the explanation. Knew it had to be for something removable.

Re: precision rifles... show em

Alrighty, It started out as a stock 700adl .308.

I used it for around a year and a half like that and it wanted something better, and more accurate.

In late July I purchased the PSS stock from Matt Maestas here, and then we were cooking. I then ordered a #4 contour .308 barrel from shaw and later cancelled that order only to get a brand new #4 shaw for shipping only. (23" 1-10")

I then shipped it off to Losok for barrel installation and hollowing out of the barrel channel. On about October 25th I called Mark to let him know that I needed the rifle for deer hunting on Nov. 3rd. He then told me he'd get it wrapped up as quick as he could, and he'd do all he could to get it here by the 1st.

He called me on the 30th to tell me that he pakerized the metal, painted the stock, and did a baking laquer on the metal, FOR FREE! That made my day. What a great guy. He wasn't going to let me take that rifle out into the field without a decent finish on the metal.

The rifle got here, I got a good zero, and nailed a doe deer at 346yds away on the 4th with 165gr sst's.

This is an awesome rifle, and I couldn't be happier with Mark's service. Now, I just need to get out and shoot it some more.

Oh wait, I'm going deer hunting tomorrow morning :p

Re: precision rifles... show em

Thats great man. Always good to hear positive news about good up and coming smiths! Mark's a great guy in my book.

How is the accuracy with the Shaw barrel? From the sound of it it at least shoots "minute of doe"
laugh.gif

Re: precision rifles... show em

He is a great guy.

Accuracy from the shaw barrel is much better than I expected. I've barely shot it for groups yet, but have gotten a .5moa group and two .8moa groups with handloaded hunting ammo so far. I wouldn't be surprised to achieve .5moa with some match handloads.

I shot another doe this morning at 232yds. The shot went right where it was supposed, a centered heart shot.

SPDSNYPER, what percentage OD and black is that on your A5?

He bedded it also for me. Trigger is Rem, but reworked.

PRI 20 MOA 7" base, Burris XTR 3-12x50 mil dot scope, Warne rings. Slip Cuff sling, Eagle stock pack, and 9-12 harris swivel bipod (leg notch model). All carried in an Eagle drag bag. Shooting sock is an old mil sock with plastic beads in it.

Love the rifle. Shoots better'n I do.

Bingo.

I still haven't really gotten over my headbanger stage. Plus, I think it looks cool on the rifles.

Re: precision rifles... show em

Got the old girl a new dress. Replaced the HS precision stock with an AICS 1.5 and I gotta say I love it. Saw a little improvement in accuracy probably due to the stock fitting better. Anyway just figured I'd share. Cheers.

Re: precision rifles... show em

Here's my latest:

Not tacticaly oriented, but I like it.

All work done by Jim Myers of One Hole Gunworks, Killeen, TX.

.308 Win
700 Short Action
Krieger #5 finished at 22"
Holland Recoil Lug
Williams Trigger Guard
McMillan Sporter, 50/50 red/black, ADL style magazine.
Talley Lightweights
Pictured with Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10 tactical, but currently has a Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10x44 w/ #58 reticle and tactical turrets.
Action and triggerguard ceracoated.
8 lbs., 13 oz. with scope mounted.

Haven't shot it much, but it has averaged .567" for its first five three shot groups with four different loads.

This is my first bolt-action rifle, and I've put 280 rnds through it so far, I try to go to the range at least once a week. I've had some work done on it by a place called Briley here in Houston.

Remmy Sendero 7mm mag
Zeiss 3-9x40
TPS 1" rings
Badger ordnance 20 MOA rail
ACD
Trigger tuned to 3.5 lbs
Muzzle brake
squared bolt face
Free-floated the barrel

I plan to put a MCMillan A5 and maybe a Nightforce 3.5-15x50 NXS on there. Thinking about fluting the barrel, I dunno yet, I'm pretty happy with it so far.
