Has anyone ever noticed a different type of powder mixed in with another jug?

I was messing around with my dispenser today (brand spankin' new) testing out how it metered H1000 and noticed several "flakes" stuck to the side after I dumped the hopper. Checked the rest of the jug and sure enough there's some quantity of flake powder mixed in with it.
It's not my doing as I've never had any flake powders around here (yet). For all I know it's completely normal but I've never noticed it before today. Normally I shake straight from the jug or container and trickle up by hand.

Anyway...curious to know if it's a normal thing or not.

Not a "gawd" (contrary to the advice from Ghostbusters) but I've noticed a similar thing in bulk Reloader 15. There is a small amount of ball powder in it. It seems to stay mixed in and shoots the same as my bottles of RL15.

Thanks man.
It must be common to [incidentally] mix differing powders at the factory.
On the bright side: I suppose if my next lot doesn't produce the same velocities I can just scrape up the flakes I removed from this lot, mix it in, and carry on...

Re: Question For The Handloading GAWDS!

No, but I found a GIGANTIC grain of powder in my Hodgdon H322 can. It's a bit longer than a grain of Varget and about 3 times as thick. Not a damn clue what it is or where it came from. It's still sitting on my reloading bench, I think.

Re: Question For The Handloading GAWDS!

For what it's worth, I got an email from a Hodgdon rep this morning that stated 'not to use it' and requested I phone him (kind fella, btw).

The short version is "No" I shouldn't get flake powder in my H1000. Possible? "Yes." Acceptable? "No."
He asked me to send the remainder of it to them for analysis (which I will do) in exchange for a replacement jug (which I turned down but he insisted I accept).

He suggested it may have been tampered with at the store or returned to the store and re-sold to me inappropriately.

Plausible, especially since I recall the weird vibe I got when they had to search for the powder I asked for that day. They went back there twice to find it, took forever in the back, and finally came up with 2 lbs with the top all taped up with red caution tape. I thought it was weird but wrote it off as a precautionary measure for that store since it had the [ever-so easily removable] "seal" that's under the lid.

Oh well. I can't prove anything but I won't be buying from that store again.

I would have walked out as well. That was a sketchy scenario.

one of the stores i buy varget from tapes the lids of ALL the powder with red safety tape. They use it as an in-house tamper proof seal... powder comes in and as it comes out of the shipping container from the dist they tape it.

that said - if there was only one container that had it and none of the others that you usually buy i'd be sketchy about it too.
