Range report...
59.3 grains H4831sc
208 Amax 0.010 jump
Rem 700 bolt action/HS Precison/26" Krieger Light Target/NXS
2740ft/sec
Prone with sling (no bipod or rear bag)
100 yards 15 shots
1.0 MOA group

Lessons learned - I shoot this combination better prone/sling than off a Harris bipod. I'm planning on giving Froggy's technique a go...

Re: Range Report 30-06 H4831sc 208Amax

Very cool, I'm planning to run some H4831sc this year through my -06 and see how it does. This gives me an idea for the starting data, thank you.

I've been shooting the 208's with RL22 but it's been leaving me wanting for a better behaved powder with temperature swings.

Re: Range Report 30-06 H4831sc 208Amax

Lapua brass with very little compression of the powder. I am using a long drop tube funnel (Dillon). Also, using the Serengeti match reamer from PT&G which is better throated for the 190SMK than the 208Amax...

Re: Range Report 30-06 H4831sc 208Amax

No pressure signs (bolt lift, primers, brass flow etc.). The brass is on its third firing with no symptoms of incipient failure...

p.s. I do not have software to calculate the pressure by analysis

Re: Range Report 30-06 H4831sc 208Amax

Here's my load data for H4831sc:

.30-06 22" mcgowen barrel

lapua brass
208 amax .02" off the lands
56.7gr H4831sc
2660fps

I start getting pressure right around 58.0gr without any real gains in velocity.
I'd like to get more powder in the case, but due to my short throated chamber, that isn't going to happen. I tried seating the bullet out further, but .020" off the lands is where the best accuracy lies. I'll have to wait till I rebarrel and redo the chamber to my specs.

Same charge of 56.7gr RL22 nets about 2690fps. Accuracy is about the same with both powders, but the 4831 is definitely less temp sensative.

I'll be switching over to h4831sc of h4350 once my rl 22 runs out.

Re: Range Report 30-06 H4831sc 208Amax

I shoot all my groups off a bipod. Get .5-.8 MOA when i do my part. But i know the rifle is capable of better and it's me. I noticed he said when you think about shooting it becomes harder and it truly does. Especially for me, i'm a mental head case when the pressure is put on. Like when i fired my last 2 groups of 44.5 and 45gr (varger) Berger 175gr BT LRs my groups were noticeably larger in size, and due to my nerves my trigger pull was also inconsistent.

Great link and read thanks for posting
