The Concealed Handgun License (CHL) in Texas has the same effect. No call to the Feds needed. The CHL holder has already been background checked. The newer 4473's have a place to record the CHL info.

In Indiana, permit or no, they still have to do the NICS check. I was pretty sure that was a federal requirement, but I am not an FFL so I don't know for sure. (thought it was a Brady requirement).

I guess my question would be....if you just show a permit, how do they know it's valid without calling it in?

Back before the instant checks an Indiana permit holder could walk out with a handgun while a non-permit holder had to wait.

Anyway....to the OP, why do you want to cut it? Many of us rock a 26" 700. I know it's not what the cool kids do, but they are a treat when you are hunting for velocity.

In Idaho if you have a Concealed weapons license you are GTG no call. Idaho's and all other CWL's I have seen have an exp. date, thats how we know if its valid. Each state sets its own laws on waiting periods and other non-sense. I'm glad Idaho is a free state it makes my job easier.

To the OP I'm still not sure I get it

But what pisses me off is my Peace Officer credentials do not offer the same benefit, even though the background check AND pyschological screening is conducted, they must still call in.
Many Peace Officers get the CHL. just to make purchases easier.

Re: Read this and answer if anyone knows

OK I worked for Scheels for 11 years( no love for them) and I am a FFL in SD. Never worked in IA. In SD if you have a permit if for goes any waiting period( NOT A DELAY) but not the check itself, and that was how Scheel's operated as a company if the state allows.
What you are saying is that you completed a 4473 and got delayed. Then they found out you had a permit ( which in IA must for go the check ?) so they sold you a differant gun because the other one was on the other 4473. And the 2nd gun was more expensive. Did you fill out a new 4473?

I think the commission sales man fucked you. If you want the other one take it back. If the fuss point out the sign by the customer service desk It will have the managers picture on it, that states the customer is always right. If they fuss more ask for Steve Scheel phone number and address. They will return it.

Anyone figure out what this guy is talking about yet? On second thought... I don't care.

yes i filled out the 4473 and got delayed then they found out i did have the permit to aquire.

so they said we cant use the same id number on the rifle on the second form and we are out of the one you want (only one sps tactical 20inch left) but we do have a 700p that we can sell you since the id on the rifle is different.

now that i look at it i wont complain because i do like the 26inch i just didnt want to have to shell out another 300 bones because of the stupid hs stock.

Re: Read this and answer if anyone knows

Believe it or not, not too long ago in NY, if you had a pistol permit and were buying a long gun, there was no NICS check needed.

Re: Read this and answer if anyone knows

In Iowa if you have a permit to carry or a permit to acquire handguns you get to skip the background check on any firearms purchase, long or handgun.
