Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Sendero_man- Sorry to hear man.

How are you guy's liking these rifles on a whole? How is the stock? I hear a lot of folks tearing them down. Has anyone hear any reports on how they perform as is?

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

How is the stock?

Does the bottom metal accept AI mags?

What base are you guys using?

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Apparently I also had a deal fall thruogh. Something about the web page not showing it being out of stock...Stoopid computers.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Damn it now another rifle I want to buy. This site is killing my pocket book. Let's us know how it shoots. I guess there made in the custom shop?

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

According to the Remington rep that I talked to they are not produced in the custom shop but they only cut a small number of barrels for that gun every year. When the barrels are gone no more produced until the next run. Take that for what it is worth because the rep could not tell me what bottom metal is on the gun or the thread for the brake.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Ok so besides a few on broker, the magic question is who, if anyone, has these for the same price as Sniper country PX did?!

Thats interesting. I dont doubt it. Just seems odd with the extractor addition and the 8/40 screw holes. They should ship all there rifles with those two already on them if they are normal production runs. But thanks for the info.

LOL you are funny ! I have been looking high and low.

good luck !

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

I found mine and one for a buddythree days ago. I googled Remington Law Enforcement dealers and started making calls. After about a half dozen shops laughing at me and at least two telling me that if I found some to call them because they would love to have one I finally got ahold of Oklahoma Police Supply. He said he had two on the way to his shop. Told him I wanted them and he called back two hours later saying they showed and would be on the way out. I made over 40 calls before I found these. If you really want one persistance will pay off.

ETA I got a deal on these too. $995.00 plus $25.00 shipping.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Well I hate to buck this Remington Rep, but I think he may wrong on the HS bottom.

It is a Badger ordnance M5 according to my dealer after speaking with his Remington guy about the specifications at my request.

The remainder of the info is identical though. I wonder who’s information is right?

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Did a serial number check on my rifle and it was packaged up and ready to go out the door on
10-19-2009 sat for a month until it was shipped to a wholesaler on 11-18-09. I put it on Lay-away 12-2 so I do not have it in my hands as yet.

Have 100 Lapua cases and 250G SCENAR projos on the way. (Maybe should have went with the Lock Base buttttttt didn’t)
However I am looking for Fed 215’s any leads? (Yea Right)

Can’t decide on powder and suggestions welcomed.
This will be a 1000 yard prone target gun for me I reside in northern Nevada at 4700 feet.
Considering VV N-165, H1000, or RE-19. Pros cons alternates?

Currently have a NF 12.5X42X56 sitting on my M99 that I will play swap with for now.
Bummer that NF does not make a base machined for the 8-40 screws.
Will probably go with the Leupold Mark 4 20 MOA base.

By the way hello everyone.
I am the current Match Director for Reno’s FCSA 50BMG matches.
If you are looking for some great fun come out to Reno in April. It is on the 16-17-18 for the match.
I welcome spectators and you can shoot my gun for free that is if you show up on Friday. Friday is registration and site in day, Sat and Sun is the comp.

Thanks Rollyman

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

I got my rifle a couple of days ago and am rounding up supplies for it. I got a few punds of RL-25 and a lb of Rutumbo, we'll see how they do. I wonder about some RL-22 with the shorter barrel and all.

Anyway I'm pretty happy with the rifle. The finish leaves something to be desired and the stock is meh. The barrel was pretty damn dirty too. For the money I'm VERY happy and everything is servicable. I'm wondering how well the factory break works as the rifle is fairly light.

I'm very curious to find out 100% what bottom metal this is becuase I may have to have Manners make me a stock. Does the Badger BM use Accuracy International mags(asked this like 3x already)? Also if anyone figures out the thread pitch I would love to know that as well.

One thing I was pleasently suprised about was the trigger. Very easy to adjust and fairly clean break at 2lbs. I oredered a Badger Ordinance 20MOA 1 piece base but it's going to take 2 weeks

. Scope shopping now, might pull the trigger on a Vortex Razor.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Rolly -
I punched out a NF base to accept the 8-40 screws, just like NF a little better than badger. Also, I think Remington has put both HS bottom metal and Badger bottom metal on these guns. Mine has HS.

Creature -
Thread on mine = M18x1.5. I run a AAC Titan on it, and couldn't be happier with it.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

ADA, Thanks for the input.

How do you know yours is an HS? Are there markings or other identifiers on the parts?

I sent HS and Badger emails to place an order for extra mags. I will see what they say and hope they have a way of identifying if it is there’s or not! The mags are way too expensive to guess with.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Rollyman - Remington has confirmed to me that they used the HS bottom metal on mine. In addition, by looking at it you can see what it is. However, there are no visible markings on it that I have found (installed on the rifle).

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Thanks. ADA
I will have to wait till I get her home to dissect it.
The rifle looks just like the pics posted earlier by Apache308.
To be honest I could not visually tell the difference between the H-S and Badger anyway.

I sent and received an email from Remington to confirm or deny my dealers information.

I was hoping to find the exact specifications on one of your web sites but found this version of rifle is not listed on any of your websites.

Q With the serial # provided can you tell me when and where the rifle was manufactured?
A It was packaged and ready to ship on 10.19.2009 and was shipped out to a wholesaler on 11.18.2009.

Are these following specifications correct for this rifle?
The Information given to me I believe was gathered from your 2006 military catalogue but this current Police version could be very different.

Q Rifling is 1-10 with 6 lands and groves?
A 1 in 10 twist with 6 lands and grooves.

Q Barrel and chamber are Stainless Steel????
A Ordinance grade steel.

Q Barrel is Remington or outsourced to what barrel manufacturer?
A We build the Police barrels. 11 degree crown and .820 barrel od

Q Barrel is threaded but with what size and pitch of threads?
A Not available.

Q The bottom metal is Badger not HS?
A HS

Q 40X trigger group?
A If it has the external screw in front of the trigger it is a 40X style.

Q 8-40 scope base mounting holes.
A Yes

Q A pair of holes for match sight???? (What is this?)
A These are the same holes as what the M24 has and they are for Olympic style match sights.

Q Are there mags available?
A Yes, from HS

Q Are there larger capacity mags available?
A Call HS – I have heard that they are but not positive because I haven’t personnal seen one.

Q The stock is in fact a McMillan not the H-S you use on other rifles.
A HS

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Here is what remington sent me on my serial number:
26" 4140 ordinance chrome-moly steel barrel with a 1:9 twist and parkerized finish. X-mark pro trigger and aluminum bedded bell and carlson stock, hs precision bottom metal.

I just sent my rifle off to get a custom barrel put on and some action work.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Anyone shoot there's yet? I got my components today but won't get the dies for another week or so.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Partisan1911
Just wondering if you ever shot the rifle before you sent it off? I know many that do this. I just have never understood the logic.

My Gunsmith and I talked a lot the first time I met him.
I feel he gave me some sound and logical advice.

He says always put some rounds down the barrel of all my guns and see if they meet my expectations.

He says you want to make sure the firearm is not flawed and has a problem the factory needs to address. This way I won’t be liable for the costs of a repair that might have been paid for under the warrantee.

He feels he can build me one the way I want it with the parts I want for less money in most cases, and not have extra gun parts that get bought and now get stored and just collect dust.

All factory triggers will need some sort of tuning as they are way too heavy, but he suggests to let them wear in a bit first. This way he can do me a better trigger job as well. He can see the way the trigger is naturally starting to break in, and then he can file, fiddle, and polish to the nature of the firearm.

He recommends at least 50 to 100 rounds on a rifle and 500 rounds with any handgun, after that he will gladly take in the firearm and my money.

He also says that you will then know you have a good Gunsmith as you will see the improvements he made to your firearm.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Well it has been confirmed by HS anyway.
My dealer spoke with his HS rep today. The rep told him that HS only made a three round mag system for the Remington 700P 338LM.
So if your factory rifle comes with a greater capacity mag it must be one of their competitors.
My mag holds five rounds so I gather the bottom metal on my rifle must be the Badger Ordinance M5 unit. So AI mags should function.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Looks like AICS mags on the 700P 338LM's that I have seen but doesn't look like Badger M5 DBM. Looks somewhat similar, but not the right profile in the trigger guard area for M5 metal.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

i loaded up some ammo the other night. 300 grain smk's. i do know that if you want them .005-.010 off the lands they are not going to fit in the magazine. i had to squeeze them down quite a bit more. have not had a chance to test fire them yet as i am in louisville for the gun show, but i will give a range report next week.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Ok I just got off the phone with Badger Ordinance. From our conversation and answering his questions I am now 100% positive that my rifle and or the post August 09 rifles are in fact Badger bottom metal.
See picks posted by Apache308 on page 2.

Quote “He also told me that they are buying AI mags for these units and not manufacturing their own as the AI quality is so good they could not do it any better.

Five rounds is all we will get as these are single stack. A greater cap mag would have an OAL of 8 to 9 inches and look more like a skeg on a sail boat and impractical.“ End Quote.

Mags are currently in stock but hold your breath though they are $89.00 each plus shipping.

Though this may answer some people’s questions it still leaves the pre Aug 09 rifles Bottom Metal a curiosity. However Badger said that if the mag release hangs down behind the mag and from the trigger guard it is there’s.

I hope these facts have helped out.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Who isn't? I have several orders placed out there. I missed obtaining one this week by an hour.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

are you looking to sell one of your 700s and if so how much, i have been looking for a while they are hard to find.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

also cant help but the 700 on gunbroker is also in buffalo wy is that your rifle??

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

Ok, I got a post August 09 rifle, Nightforce 5.5-22x56, a badger 30 MOA base and badger rings, 100 rounds of Lapua brass, 300 grain sierras, Redding Comp neck dies, and some Retumbo, H1000, and RL25. Has anyone been reloading for these rifles? I noticed the mag is stamped 3.775" so I suppose that will be the starting length. I havent started loading yet because its too cold (-20f) to shoot here. I was just wondering some starting charges and what powder works best, especially with the short tube. Its a bad time of the year to have all these presents arrive, when you cant go outside and enjoy them! Oh well still having fun playing with the NF in the house.

that is not the length of the cartridge....i started at 3.720" and had to squeeze it down to about 3.6" for it to fit in the magazine. but on my rifle, 3.720" was .005 off the lands. take it for what it's worth. steve

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

These things keep going for big bucks. $1525 last night on GB then there was one on there this morning but it is already gone and I forgot to click watch this. I got an email from Remington LE and they said these are in production and they are trying to catch up on the backorders. So if you are like me and have one on order be patient. They told me to expect delivery sometime in Q1 2010.

Good news, please share as much info as you can on how these shoot. I won't be able to do anything with mine until May and am interested in how they'll perform.

how many shots per group and did you crono the loads?

Funny that my rifle sat ready to ship for a month in the Remington warehouse.
My dealer implied that the wholesaler just sent it to him at random. It is not like this rifle was specifically ordered for a customer. Though he did place a standard order for some time ago. But my dealer has many firearms as a standard order.
I am quite positive that many customer orders have been placed so why did this rifle seem to be so lost for a dealers location?
I am not complaining as I was just in the right place and time but some of you have stated that you all have been waiting for a long time. One commented a wait of two years?
Maybe some of you should be complaining and pushing your dealers and forcing them to ask questions?

5 shot groups. i didn't chrono as i am waiting on a new tripod for my chronograph. i will get it done soon though.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

More and more of these rifles are showing up online each week. Hopefully the gouging will stop soon and we can all pick one of these up. In November these were going for $1129 on GB all day long. Now they are $1400-1895. I have two on order for $1038.

Re: Remington 700 Police 338 Lapua rifles

762, Have you chronographed anything yet? I got all the stuff for mine together, just waiting on some vacation time over the holidays to skim bed the rifle and base. I am anxious to shoot mine, especially with the recent heat wave (+25f). I will also be changing the brake because I will be shooting mostly prone, also will need a higher comb. What is the recoil like with the factory brake?

no chrono data as of yet. my buddy is borrowing my chrono and i won't have it back till this weekend. we are getting together this weekend so i know i will have data after then. i am guessing 2650-2750 and im pretty sure it is leaning towards the high side of that just because of drops. recoil is not bad at all. it is less painful than my 308 shooting 208 amaxes. overall it is a great rifle and i am excited to stretch it's legs.
