Guys I have a Remy 700p in 300ultra and when I took the the bolt apart I noticed the firing pin spring was compressed to the point where its bending in several places is this normal?also is the firing pin and spring on the 300wm the same size as the 300ultra, because both of my 300wm are not like this. ?thnxs

Most likely even if the little lock isn't even there.

If it looks like the top one you have J-Lock parts.

Like I said, J-Lock parts without the lock. When Remington dropped the J-Lock they still had lots of parts to use and they used them, they just left off the machine step for the little side lock.

You will need to replace the entire firing pin assembly to fix this issue.

I had a J-lock short action that was kinked like the one pictured above. I replaced it with a fluted steel assembly from PTG. It was reasonably priced and decreased the pull weight slightly. I was told that the spring will rub inside the bolt sometimes causing unlocking issues. (Dave Kiff(source)

Is the shroud on the old one longer? Everything should match up but the shroud is bigger on your old one.

Try assembling the new firing pin assembly on your bolt and then uncock the striker while the bolt is out of the gun. See if the firing pin protrudes out of the bolt face by the proper amount.
