A big THANK YOU to Brad at Nordic Marksman for this! :D

Will have a RR soon!

Double WOW!!!!

That wood is way better than mine.

Man I love my Fortner 1827!

Remember how I said I would blame you for my Fortner Action addiction? This is the end result! Thanks!

Still waiting on a lower 28moa mount (Hide member sent it a few days ago) and a March 3-24x52mm (in the distant future). Going to try take it out on the weekend before the match ammo shows up. Still have some FGMM and CCI green Tag laying around.

The action is so sweet! Going to be a fun day with this!

To all the posts-->Thanks for all the compliments on this! I had Brad at Nordic Marksman (Canada) go through his entire selection and photograph the best ones for me to pick through. He sent pics of the test targets too and I got to match the stock to a good looking/performing action as well. Will be making a thread on this after a day at the range with reports etc to follow. :)

My Mossberg 715T is certainly at the opposite end of the spectrum compared to all the "sexy" rifles we're seeing on this thread. That being said, for the past year, 70% of my trigger pulls have sent about 1200 rounds down range out of this rifle. So from my perspective, I have learned a lot about shooting scoped rifles with this rifle and for me it is a great piece of equipment!

Here is the rifle with Atlas bipod, Sight Mark 2000 Lumen tac light, Leupold 3.5-10x M2 TMR Ill Ret scope, ATN PS-22 g3A NVD, Tac Intervention Spec sling.

And here she is again in current config with Harris bipod, Leupold 6.5-20x TMR scope and TIS sling. Note I had been leveling the scope and focusing the reticle, hence she is looking at the window. Even at 6.5x I can't focus on anything in the house and I want to use 16x at lot, so I was getting everything lined up at 16x.

The main downside of this rifle is cleaning it - you have to take apart the plastic wrapper to get to the "gun inside the gun". But I've treated it like a real rifle and it has acted like one in terms of being useful for structured practice and improving my shooting skill.

Ha, I just sold my March 3-24x42 so I could get the same scope in x52 same as you! I'm hoping they make a better reticle than the FML1 because I despise those large numbers so close to the verticle crosshair. I holdover a lot. I was going to have NEAR manufacturing make a custom angled 34mm mount for me but when I put my S&B 5-25 next to the Fortner for comparison is was half the size of the rifle, LOL, yep- gave up on that idea. If only March would make a nice G2 type reticle I'd be set.

What brand lower 28moa mount are you getting?

Here is my favorite target Rifles. The top two are Kimber 82g's then two 40Xb's. The next is a USMC 40X last is a left hand stock Anschutz 54 match.

Steve, have you thought about the Leupold MK6 3-18? It is a small lighter scope with very good optics, and good reticle choices.

That was a nice scope you sold! Wish I had seen the ad. I think I will be ok with the retical as I like to dial it in for the shots if I can. I am getting another AI mount similar to the one pictured just .2 or.3 inches lower and 28moa instead of 45moa. Will start a thread on this system... :)

Tempting yes, I was just looking at them yesterday but I need to try to stay with 10Y parallax because sometimes I switch my scopes over to the air rifles for Field Target comps. Plus we had a 22 match last year where match sticks were set up at 25Y and my 50Y min scope was still blurry on it's lowest mag with the parallax dialed in all the way. Just that small thing cost me some points because I missed a few of them.

I have a SWFA 3-15 mounted on the Fortner now but I like more mag than 15X, which is half the reason I sold my NF F1 last year.

Yeah, I know, I am a picky guy.

Awesome!

I didn't realize AI mounts were 11mm dovetail. Looking forward to your future post. You aren't having problems with brass bouncing off the bottom of the mount and back into the action with it over the ejection port?

I vote steve123, ice dragon must stop posting pic's of those tempting annies
Damm it boy's you killing my billfold LOL

No worries with the brass ejecting. The mount only shows three slight brass rub marks after a few hundred rounds so very little actually impacts on the base of the mount. The AI mounts will work with only two of the base plate bolts engaging the 11mm rail. Rock solid but now cantilevered over the action.

yoteman- wait till you see the next bit of gear going on this! I am looking at the MEC Contact IV buttplate assemblies right now to extend the length of pull. That and the front mount NV would make it a real fun bit of gear for in the woods!

CZ452 modified

I had a cz 452 American and have kept changing it. It still has CZ action but John Whidden put a Lija barrel on it and I bedded it on a Manners stock. Has a picatinny rail for bipod and scope, a Timney trigger set just over 2# and a viper 6.5-20x. I just put a new bolt knob on it. It is still threaded with a tac65 supressor.

Nice! How's it shoot?

Ben

shoots good

It shoots around 1/3 to 1/4 inch at 50 and about 1 at 100 and about 2-3 at 200. I just put some pics. The black pic at 200 was shot by a friend with same rifle. How handy you replied, I was trying to figure out how to reply to your earlier post. I am currious if your rifle is shooting better after coating it? I hope it is and was wondering if you know what changed after coating it that altered your accuracy?

Well, actually it blew up in my face if you must know. It destroyed the rifle.. Split the stock, magazine and no telling if there is any internal damage. It's back in route to volquartsen custom.

Well I think the next gun I do will be fine after coating! I made several very stupid mistakes. 1st and probably most important I didn't torque the barrel set screws back to the amount that I had it torqued when I shot my great groups. I believe this may have caused the action to become slightly out of round and induced incorrect stress in the bedding.(Shouldn't be an issue for you!) 2nd stupid mistake I made was I went over the action several times and added too much Cerakote to my action and added even more stress to my prior bedding.

So I did get my group size back down considerably but it is still isn't back to where they were. However my new plan is to re-torque to the previous setting and then re-bed and be done with it!

If you coat it yourself just get good coverage and then stop, I think it should be good!

Same thing happened to my Volquartsen 22 mag. IMO it fired slightly out of battery.

Update on my Ballard. Well got it back from Steve and Keith at SPG Lube/Wyoming Armory last week. The guys did a great job on repairing the stock (it had two broken pieces out of the bottom by the pronged butt plate) they repaired it so well that unless I point it out to you where it was broke it would be hard to find and they matched the finish to boot! Steve recrowned the muzzle as the crown was damaged. I felt it needed a 1/2" taken off of it. He felt it wouldn't need that much but did see the damage I was talking about. He didn't want to shorten the barrel if he didn't have to. So he recrowned the muzzle and shot it from a Pope machine rest. Shot a bunch of different ammo and approx. 15-20 rounds to foul the clean barrel. Pictured is one of the targets. The Federal Ultra Match (UM1) shot the best consistently. The group pictured is .306" high by .244" wide. He backed it up with another group that measured .237" x .200". The groups were fired at 65 yards. They installed Ballard windgage adjustable front sight for me as well.

The gun was rebarreled by the Steven's factory around 1909. The barrel is marked Stevens-Pope. It's got a left hand twist, 8 grooves and is a gain twist. Enjoy the pics....

Yeah Frank....... Might be the coolest gun I've ever seen

Thanks to all you guys for the nice comments! It is a awesome rifle and I've always liked the Ballards for a single shot! At the time I got it I knew it had been rebarreled as the original Rigby barrel which most likely was a .32-40 or .38-55 chamber was long gone as most of them were round barrels with the Rigby flats and I didn't know until recently that it had the gain twist rifling and left hand twist etc.... the other side of the action as has an engraved what to me is a bull elk and a tree. All of the engraving is factory Marlin. The vast majority of the 6 1/2 Rigby off hand rifles were factory engraved. I'll snap a picture of the other side and post later.
