figure id ask here as well as the gunsmithing forum i have a mdl 19-4 4" bbl with a cracked forcing cone and am looking for a replacement bbl anyone have a source new or used in good shape? ive tryed numrich aka gunparts corp. even tryed ebay turned up a nickle and a chrome one but wanting blued steel . please and thanks

Why not send it to smith for warranty?
If the barrel forcing cone is cracked, is the cylinder any good?

I never paid attention to when S&W switched to pinning the barrels... I seem to recall the Model 19 had issues when you shot to much 357 in it... something typical shooters would not experience...

I also recall when S&W switched to pinned barrels, they had some constriction problems that led to FC issues. maybe a constriction where the barrel was pinned....

@aljones_315
well i tryed to buy 2 different barrels on the website only to have the transactions cancelled within a few hours as he can not find the items listed for sale via email he says hes completly out of stock so im back to square 1

if the cylinder is good, would it be possible to machine the existing barrel?

Remove the barrel- remove 1 thread - recut forcing cone - reinstall?

The finish would match... check the timing and enjoy
the crack in the forcing cone length wise is atleast 35 thousanths long would take a bit more than 1 thread i do have a lathe and a bit of knowledge how ever im not skilled to weld the crack up and then re cut the profile and clean up the weld also not sure how the barrel would take the welds and what affect the heat may have on the rest of the barrel

Whatever you do, do not try to weld and dress the crack. You will create an incredibly hard and brittle spot in a highly stressed portion of the barrel, plus you will most likely bend the barrel from the differential heating and cooling.

You could stress relieve the barrel, weld it, then re-heat treat it but you will most likely need to straighten it after you're done and in any event very, very few people outside of Smith & Wesson have the knowledge to do that correctly and end up with a safe part.

Your barrel is dead and so is your revolver unless you can find an undamaged barrel

Here's another, sort of, I had SW replace the barrel on my SW 629 Classic after several thousand rounds when the forcing cone lost a chip out of it. They removed the old barrel, put a new one on, checked the rest of it (seemed like a smart thing to do while it was at the factory), test fired it and returned it to me with the test target. Don't remember how much, but at the time I thought it was reasonable and was glad to get it done.

Later, bought another 629 Classic that had a worn barrel, so sent it back to SW and had it rebarreled with the 4" Mountain Gun tapered barrel. Same deal, they went through it completely, put on the new barrel, test fired, etc.

I still have both of these 629s. Seems likely they could fix your Model 19.

If yours is the 19-4, pretty sure your barrel is pinned, easy to tell by looking at it.

smith was wonderful to me. On of my pistols had an issue...they sent a prepaid package to me, had fed ex pick it up, and had it repaired, and delived back to me and in my hands in less than 4 weeks, and i dont live anywhere near them. I am a nobody so there was no special treatment to me. They made me a staunch suspporter.

Quit monkeying around and call them.
