Just bought a Bushnell 4200 elite, has light haze from old tan paint job I think. Tan paint still in recesses etc

No idea what it was painted with, but i'd like to try to make it fresh w/o ruining factory finish.

I have Jasco, and Citrus Stripper Gel.

Any tips would be much appreciated

Shop towel and acetone. I think steel wool would scratch the factory finish up after a few strokes.

To remove the paint off the scope you can use a rag that has some assatone on it and rub the rag on the maintube. Just do not submerge the scope. Also do not use the assatone on the lenses the assatone can remove the lens coatings. If there is paint on the lens you can use pharmaceutical grade alcohol and this should remove the derbie off the lens. When cleaning the lenses just make sure that you use a paint brush or cotton swab and do not press to hard when you clean the lens.

Steel wool has never scratched any of my finishes. It works really well and reduced the amount of time involved in the process.

assatone? Can I use this on my Woman? WHat if I just spill some on her car seat and the couch? How long will it take before I see some toning?

A few scope manufacturers recommend acetone to clean lenses. Is the coatings on the bushnell different from USoptics and Leupold?

Acetone on the lens should not be a problem, but use it sparingly because you don't want to get it on any o-ring seals. Those might not hold up very well, or you may wash out lubricant that is needed for smooth operation.
