A swimmer was severely injured after being bit in the arm by a sea lion in San Francisco Bay on Thursday afternoon.

The person was swimming at Aquatic Park.

John Baxter with the San Francisco Fire Department tells KTVU a tourniquet was applied to the swimmer's leg to stop blood flow. The tourniquet was applied by the San Francisco Police Department. The swift actions by emergency crews contributed to the swimmer's life being saved, according to San Francisco Fire.

The victim is expected to be OK, according to San Francisco fire.
The Marine Unit will be advising local swim clubs of the incident.

At this point, additional details have not been released.

A) That's some bite by a little 'ol sea lion, that a tourniquet had to be applied to save the swimmer's life. They must have some kind of mutant, killer sea lions there.

Sea lions is big and nasty........ like the city of which you speak. It was his arm, but it identified as a leg. Which is weird cause the swimmer identified as a manatee, and they don't have legs.

Males sea lions can weight up to 350 kg (770 lbs), and females up to 100 kg (220 lbs). Not necessarily small...

Few years back I was in the area for a wedding.
Took a few pics of the golden gate just around the corner from the pic above.
The homeless were sleeping on cardboard on the side walks downtown.
Caught a fair contact buzz just walking around.
