Savage 110FCP 338LM, almost done/first outing

Re: Savage 110FCP, Almost done (need cheek piece)

Just a note, Snipedogg and I have both compared powder in the Factory 300gr Scenar ammo to N170 and N570. It appears Lapua is using a proprietary powder for their factory ammo, not uncommon.

Re: Savage 110FCP 338LM, almost done/first outing

Snipedog - can you post your N570 recipe?

Note to anyone looking at this powder, the granuals are HUGE, and it is VERY difficult to get any consistency in thrown charges. (not that anyone wouldn't individually weigh.)
Also due to the large granuals, I have had flow issues, and had to purchase an extended drop tube for my redding powder measure.

I shoot 300gr Scenars sitting on 93gr of N570, FGMM mag primers in my 110BA .35@ 100yd and 2832fps. No pressure signs

Re: Savage 110FCP 338LM, almost done/first outing

Thanks Sully, I just received a package from Bruno Shooting Supply. Couple lbs of N570 and a bunch of 300gr Scenars. Its nice to hear about good results from those components.

I did a ladder test on my FCP and it likes 88.5gr of H-1000 with CCI primer, Lapua brass, and Berger 300gr bullet loaded out to 3.700". It's sub moa.

Re: Savage 110FCP, Almost done (need cheek piece)

I have tried so many times to shrink the 5 shot groups at 100y but the best it could do is .82" The rest I've got was a 1-1.5" @ 100y. Anybody out there have a recipe that can make this rifle shot a 5 shot group half an MOA at 100y?

Re: Savage 110FCP, Almost done (need cheek piece)

Best way to shrink your groups at 100 yards is to practice and develop your loads for 200 or 300 yards.

Re: Savage 110FCP 338LM, almost done/first outing

Just received my 338 and was wondering if someone could post up the gap in between the muzzle break and barrel. Mine seems rather excessive. My muzzle has tool marks on it, supposedly brand new from grabagun ><

Re: Savage 110FCP 338LM, almost done/first outing

Bumping this post to see if there are any new loads out there for this rifle good over 1000+ yds

Re: Savage 110FCP 338LM, almost done/first outing

After many tests, Ive settled on 89gr Retumbo behind 300gr Scenar's, 215M Primer, .015" off the lands. Very good results out to 1900 yards and it doesn't kill the brass after 2 or 3 reloads.
