I just got a new S&B 5-25 PM2 scope today. I also got an AI 34mm mount for it. I was reading the book that comes with the scope and in section 1 about mounting it says they recomend gluing the lower part of the ring for safety reasons?
I had a smith in Georgia who used to put a drop of loctite in the saddle of the rings before setting the scope in. Other than that I have never seen anything gluewise used on rings.
I had some cheap burris rings on my 22 that came with a thin doubleface tape strip.

Anyone know what glue they are referring to?
The scope fits very snug in the AI mount. I do not have a lapping bar to fit the mount but being as it is a 1 piece precision mount I suspect it will not be needed.

Re: schmidt&bender mounting question

Some folks will use various methods to reduce ring marks on their scopes or enhance the holding capability, but I mount and torque to spec. Cheap rings tend to need the tricks more than quality rings. I don't buy the lower quality rings.

If it were my scope, I wouldn't do anything other than install it in the AI base and torque properly.

There is the answer.

Re: schmidt&bender mounting question

All of what has been said above is correct,..no glue or lapping is needed.

If you have the 45MOA mount you may want to consider the 28MOA mount as more usable for su b 1100yrd work?

The 28 needs a 2.5 x 50mm cut out to allow the depth of the scope turret in the mount without fouling.

Enjoy the SuB,..outstanding glass!

Re: schmidt&bender mounting question

The glue they reccomend is basically liquid electrical tape..Most quality scope mounts such as badger wont have a problem with slippage..Some aluminum mounts do have this problem and the manufacturers reccomend rediculous torque specs to prevent slippage.

Re: schmidt&bender mounting question

Why in the world would you put glue on a $3000+ scope. They make torque wrenches for that. I have never had a scope slip in high quality rings torqued properly. This would include 338 LM, 375 Cheytac and 50 cal

i am not going to put glue on mine. That is what it says in the schmidt&bender manual. I have not heard of anyone mentioning that before so figured i would ask.
