Ordering a 338 rum tomorrow and need an optic. Rifle is about 7.5 lbs. Primary use is black bear in PA and and elk out west. Maybe moose or caribou one day. Budget is less than 1k. Ideally $6-800 would be whatI I want to spend. I have it narrowed down to the 3-15x44 vx-5hd with wind plex or the fire dot. The other scope I have been looking at is the burris veracity 3-15.
any others I should look at?
What would you put on it?
thanks,
matt

Really depends what the primary hunting terrain would be. If I was in the mountains in some brush, the VX5 with the dot will come in handy for rapid acquisition. In open field, the Veracity is FFP so no need to keep the mag all the way up if making drop adjustments or holds.

both have great warranty, Burris is running a promo $100 rebate. Both have custom elevation knob options. It comes down to the use.

Haha just saw the title. Sometime this tablet has a mind of its own.
the nightforce shv looks great but just didn't do it for me. I'm sure it is as good as everyone says but the locking turret of the Leopold really makes sense for a bear rifle in the mountains I think. I know of a few places where you can pop out on a clear cut or gas line and shoot far or spend most of the day looking less than 100 yards.

I sure hope so. The only Leupold I have is an old mark 4.5-14 and it has been on 3 rifles without an issue. If this is an upgrade I am pretty excited to get it in. Of course it will be on a rifle I only use less than a week in pa and that is kind of a bummer. Supposed to be chasing elk in Wyoming next year though so it is going on a roadtrip trip.I think I'm still taking my DTA on the trip in case we end up somewhere I can get away with it.

i needed a hunting weight big boomer to round out the collection! At least that's how I justified it.

Hi Matt,
Mike with CSTACTICAL here. The Leupold VX-5HD are great scopes and for the price they would work great. I like the Burris Veracity but I like the feel and the look of the VX5 more.

If we can be of help let us know.

Mike @ CSTACTICAL

Thanks Mike. I was planning on giving you a call but when I ordered the rifle my ffl told me he could get the vx5 in and I went that route. I keep your info handy since you got me a vortex a few years back. Vendors like you are nice to have on here.
