Seating the Hornady A-max

Where does everyone start seating these in relation to jump to the lands when working up a load? I am working with 162 amax in a 7mm-08.

I have no idea what others do but I start all bullets 5 thou off the lands when load development begins. After finding the best charge I back off in 5 thou steps until I find the best seating range and then seat in the middle of that range.

I have found all the AMAX bullets i load like to be about .005" off the lands. None liked being into the lands for me.

I have seen most all amax's like to be close. Much more than .005 and the groups open up for me.

That's about where I seat my V-MAX bullets as well (55gr in 22-250)

I would start at the lands and work back 10thou. if this doesnt produce the results you are looking for go into the lands a bit of the time. if that doesnt work try a different boolleettt!! Lee

Forget jump in the lands !! Does it fit in the magazine ?? Unless your rifle is already a single shot why hinder yourself ? Find the load that shoots accurate AND fits in magazine.

.050" jump shoots good for me.

Just a C-hair off the lands in My LSR 7mmWSM. Great shooter!! I hate to admit but is shot just as good as Bergers and SMK's

178's shoot just fine in my factory bbl at 2.800 COAL. In other words they are jumping, quite a lot actually.
