I am getting ready to order a torque wrench or torque wrenches from Scott. I will mostly use 68" lbs for swapping barrels in my Desert Tactical rifle.

My question is about the adjustable Seekonk wrench. Would seem more practical, assuming it is as accurate as the preset wrenches. Most base screws are 65"lb but I also use Glen Seekins rings and they are 55"lb. Not a huge deal, I imagine, but it would be nice to have the ability to adjust. Also, not a huge deal, but the DT is supposed to be 68"lbs not 65. I am just thinking the adjustable wrench is more versatile, but they dont seem very common. Is it simply because the preset wrenches are more convenient or is there some other reason the adjustable wrenches are less popular?

Lastly, for anyone who has the adjustable wrench, is the $50 upgrade for the audible cleck a good way to go or is the visual reference good enough?

Re: Seekonk Torque Wrenches

Hydro, I have a question for you about the DT, is the barrel only attached with 5.6 foot pounds ( 68 inch pounds). Is the barrel screwed into the reciever or is it attached some other way? I would go with the adjustable dial type wrench, it is more versitle than a preset wrench. As far as the audible click it is not necessary. The only draw back to the dial wrench is the cost.
For my inch pound needs I use an adjustable Snapon wrench 5-45 inch pounds.

The wrench I got is the 0-75" adjustable. I got the A/V upgrade. It allows you to easily (according to Scott) set the torque wherever you want it and go. There will be a light and a beep when you get to the pre set tq.

I wanted the versatility of the adjustable wrench. I couldnt find anyone who had tried both so I just ordered it myself. I will try it. If I dont like it, I will sell it and get the set.

I'm interested in hearing what your thoughts are on this unit.

Re: Seekonk Torque Wrenches

Todate, I have 3 Seekonk torque wrenches being 65"lb, 55"lb (received today from Scott) and 15"lb. I have no experience with the adjustable type but if I was to start again i would buy an adjustable type - simply to save room in my gun case and for the added versatility.

Re: Seekonk Torque Wrenches

Go to Brownell's web. They sell a Seekonk torque wrench, 0-75" /lb. I have one . To me it seems foolish to buy 3 different torque wrenches when you can just buy one adjustable one. On most 22 rifles you can play with the torque on action screws for best accuracy. If you use a scope mount on an M1a or tighten the gas plug, they recommend 90-115"/lbs. This is possible with the Seekonks wrench' go past 75 to '15'= 90"/lbs. I use mine all the time for alot more than just scopes and action screws.

Re: Seekonk Torque Wrenches

I own some Seekonks and appreciate them most when packing light.

Having said that, need a good quality adjustable torque wrench?
Going to leave it at a bench? I shop price and check the wrenchs every year. So far cheap has been accurate as well.
It's just plain goofy to pay big buck for a torque wrench if you live/work near a tester.

Enjoy this one....ya think he would have found out!

Re: Seekonk Torque Wrenches

I got my Seekonk adj. wrench from Scott yesterday. Typical blazing fast shipping. When I got it, I was surprised by how big it is. It is put together very well and seems like a great tool. Especially for the bench. But I dont have the room in my pack. I am sending it back and getting the 2 fixed torque tools instead. Will have to compromise adjust-ability for size.
