I just bought one to trim my 338 Berger otms with and it's a joke! The bullet holder doesn't "hold" the bullet. It merely stops it. When i insert the bullet and go to turn the trimmer the bullet just wobbles around, catching on the cutting blade. It will eventually chip of enough but it's such a cumbersome and barbaric process that i could nearly achieve the same thing with a pocket knife.
Am i missing something? There is no taper in the bullet stop to match the curvature of the bullet so I'm wondering if it just missed a step in the machining process?

I'm waitin'for the answers, because my Tubb Meplat Trimmer's faults, or faults of mine, are the same_
Anyone with some more constructive answer than "spend one billion dollar for the X brand, buy once cry forever" (Giraud, if I don'go wrong), will be truly appreciated_

This morning I ordered a Hoover Meplat trimming tool. I think it will be a good one. I have a Montour County now, but the Hoover has a hand-crank and should make it much faster and cleaner.

I have the Hoover. Works great. I just wish it had easier a way to set the depth of the cut. It's basically trial and error. I found using a feeler gauge was the easiest for me.

I believe that is the recommended method anyway. Put a bullet in, loosen the set screw, put a feeler gauge in-between the handle and the main body, retighten the set screw and you're good to go.

I have one and it works without any issues for 175SMK.

I think alot of people try to do 2 things that screw with the process:

1 - Assume the turning handle crank needs to be flush with the bushing (think vertically)

2 - Simply push the bullet it, which will at most times be crooked. You need to put the bullet it and sort of rotate it side to side while its hitting the bushing on the ogive.

ETA - Just watched your video. There's something wrong with yours or you have the wrong bushing. Mine is nowhere near that loose; I couldn't try and do that with mine if I wanted to.

The box says 338 caliber and the bushing says 33 on it. Pretty sure it's the right bushing but may not be machined right.
Good to know it's not me then. Guess I'll give Sinclair a call, although that'll Probly be more hassle than just doing something to fix it. Either take a tapered reamer to it (right now it just looks like a drilled hole with no taper) or epoxy a bushing (bored to like .339) to it to hold the bullet centered.

Definitely something wrong there. Sinclair is easy to deal with. Just send it back and get a Hoover.

Nah, easier to just fix it...
