The wife has a rifle in a thumb hole varminter stock she loves. Unfortunetly the stock has a fairly low comb, and because it is a thumb hole there is not alot of meat for me to make it adjustible.

So I have come up with a mounting solution to get her scope just .450 above the receiver. The issue is objective size and barrel clearance. At the moment it wears a SWFA SS 10x, It looks like a 42 or maybe a 44mm objective would clear but definitly not a 50. So I came upon the Bushnell elite tactical LRS 2.5-16x42 Does anyone have any experiance with this scope ? I could find very little information on it. I know alot of guys love their HDMRs. Is the LRS 2.5-16 also made in the same factory in japan ? Is the glass decent? and is it mechanically repeatable?

If anyone has any other recommendations for something with a 44mm or less objective I'd love to hear them. FFP isnt necassary but it would be a plus, my wife doesnt range atm. Also looking for something with a little more than 10 power, she is mostly shooting paper and steel so something with a high end around 12-18 would be ideal. Budget would be under $1000.

Re: Smaller Objective Bushnell LRS 2.5-16x42mm

I have this scope and am quite happy with it. It is made in Japan, but not to the same standards as the HDMR.

+'s
-Glass is pretty good (definitely for price (~550)
-Design is robust and exudes a sense of durability
-Parallax adjustment down to 10 yards
-LRS 42mm is built thicker than it's 50mm brother in the 6500 series
-Excellent mag range
-Consistant generous eye relief
-Non-critical eye box
-120 Moa of internal travel (versatile)
-Levels are indexed
-Simple ressetable zero

-'s
-Turrets are quite decent but there are better in the sub 1k range
Can be hit or miss, they're not mushy but eg. windage could be more positive than
elevation and not each adjustment have the same audible/tactile feedback. They
are repeatable, I'm likely being bit critical. I would say they are fine for most
purposes but depends what you're comparing to.
-Mismatched reticle/turrets (only 1/4 moa turret option)
-Limited to standard mil reticle (reticles from the rest of Elite series not available)
-Long for a 2.5x-... A bit heavy (The smaller objective is nice but it is still not compact)
-Only 12 Moa per turn

In the end, I think it's a worthwhile purchase if its specs meet your/her needs. I'm happy with mine and won't be parting ways with it anytime soon. I really wish Bushnell would consider upgrading this model to offer other reticles and mil turrets. It's great for the money with a few shortcomings that shy some away.

If the low end magnification is not a bonus to you, I might suggest looking elsewhere. For me, the versatility of this scope is unrivaled at its price point. It has a nice, bright picture throughout its mag range. I think the this scope becomes less impressive when someone is looking for eg. A 5-15 and doesn't plan to use the bottom end. Looking at it the other way around... It's a great 2.5x that has the ability to stretch out to 16x, much higher than most while still maintaining a great close sight picture and wide FOV... if that makes sense. That's the big selling point for me anyway.

Hope that helps,
Good luck-

If you're interested, I wrote down some impression and specs, pics etc... Shortly after I bought mine.

Here's a link below to a thread I started this last summer,

Re: Smaller Objective Bushnell LRS 2.5-16x42mm

The turret value was one of the things i was confused about.. i was unsure if they just recently renamed it LRS because several retailers have it listed as .1 mil turrets... so im still unsure. I guess id have to call bushnell on it.

I really appreciate the response

Calling Bushnell may be a waste of time.
2 times I called Bushnell about ET scopes I talked to people that knew less about the scopes than I did, and the "wealth" of internal information they had access to was no more revealing than what you can pickup with a Google search.

I saw that they renamed the elite tactical line. They stand for the following,

LRS- long range riflescope
ERS- extended range riflescope
XRS- Extreme range riflescope

I've spoke with Bushnell, unfortunately they do not have a 1/10 mil option in the 2.5-16. I would have been very happy if they did, would have even paid to have it modified or buy a new one.

It's a bit disappointing, but that aside it is still a good buy.
The 2.5-16 does have the same ED, wide band, fully multi coated glass used in the rest of the Elite line.

Hope that helps-

Edit: they do have a problem posting/reporting on their site and others spec information about their scopes, specifically about turrets
