Devcon 10110 is the preferred bedding compound of many professional and kitchen table 'smiths.
Not only is it used for rifle bedding but I've used it to bed 1911 grips to the grip screw bushings. This totally eliminates any shifting of the grips due to oversized screw holes which results in scratches on the underlying finish.
