If you're over 60, you have to remember this song.

Yea...Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy (fussbudgeting), .......in Elementary School days I used to buy every Charlie Brown paperback book (small) that the Value Fair store had on it’s shelves when they got them...I was very proud of my Charlie Brown collection. And I would goof around and Really piss my best friend off by fussbudgeting on anything he said, it didn’t matter what he said, I’d make a statement, finding exceptions to it. One day it pissed him so much he wanted to beat me up but he could never catch me, I’d run staying ahead of him (through the other kids in the high school hallways), laughing myself silly at him all the time he tried catching me, I was kinda’ ruthless about that at the time. I loved Charles Schulz stuff, still do.

Before he had a gambling problem...

Fun piece, maaan, he makes it look so easy almost no effort showing. True story...my wife (blessed’) went to the DOVE AWARDS with another galfriend of hers (me havin’ to work of course) because she was Gerald Crabb’s agent at the time and he was getting an award so got to go, as she was moving around there she kinda tripped and fell back and turns out she was CAUGHT by non other than Vince Gill there too...she said, there I was in the arms of Vince Gill, she looked up, he asked if she was ok, she said I sure am and if you just keep holding me and just sing to me I’ll be perfect. True story.

Makes me bust out smilin’ and lovin’ it...said it before...seen him three times now, all small-medium clubs. Twice at The Belly-Up tavern in Solona Beach, CA., fantastic place for all types of music tastes. Once, when I got into South Carolina at The HandleBar Restaurant. My new wife was seein’ him for the first time, though I already clued her into him even talked to her (before we got hitched, her bein’ in SC at the time) from The Belly while he was playin in the background, she said he makes the ugliest faces, lmao, when he plays (women...sometimes I just don’t knowww) but she liked him she understood it. Great time anytime anywhere he plays. I’d chat with a few strangers that never heard of him like kids really and by the end of his shows TOTAL converts, so to speak. Btw, that’s including wife Tanya Rae on the rhythm. ? Mannn, he’s just a goodtime show is all I can say.

Rebel Son - Southern Wind - from album 'Unreconstructed'

As I walk through the woods on a cold winter's eve
I hear voices far away, it seems so hard to believe
That I hear these conversations with my very own ears
Because Im standing all alone and not another soul is near...

I thought I heard a young boy say "Daddy what do we do
with these brand new coats of grey that they've given to me and you?"
He said "Boy that coat represents our great Southern land
so wear it with pride, one day I know you'll understand"

I thought I heard a woman say "My husband I love you
I'll be waiting right here to greet you when the war is through"
I heard the man reply, "My dear don't worry I'll be fine
I promise I'll be home its just a matter of time"...

Chorus:
Southern wind blow on through our unforgotten land
Here today and yesteryear are reunited once again
Hear the cry of Confederates lost many years ago
Cannons thunder and a lonesome locomotive whistle blows
Share your pride inside with your fellow Rebel souls
Hear their stories from beyond the grave, so many left untold
Keep Dixieland alive in your heart and in your mind
Southern wind blows once again and will until the end of time...

I heard a fire crackling far away from where I stood
I heard so many Southern strangers form a perfect brotherhood
I hear horses rumble carrying their soldiers off to fight
Gunshots pierce the silence of a cold and quiet night
I hear yelling fade away as a man draws his final breath
With his rifle and his honor, he falls down to his death
I hear hell on earth and battle rage beneath dark eastern skies
Brothers telling one another their ultimate goodbyes

Instrumental interlude...

General Robert E. Lee's Farewell Address. Appomattox Court House. April 10, 1865

"After 4 years of arduous service, marked by unsurpassed courage and fortitude, the Army of Northern Virginia has been compelled to yield to overwhelming numbers and resources. I need not tell the survivors of so many hard fought battles who have remained steadfast to the last. That I have consented to this result due to no mistrust of them, but feeling their valor and devotion could accomplish nothing that could compensate the loss that would have attended continuation of the contest. I have determined to avoid the useless sacrifice of those whose service has endeared them to their countrymen. By the terms of the agreement, officers and men can return to their homes, and remain there until exchanged..."

Instrumental interlude...

I heard a young boy cry as he fell onto his knees
He said "Jesus let my father rest in peace I beg you please"
I heard this young boy cry as he took his fathers hand
"Daddy now I understand" and then a boy became a man

I heard a woman open up her front door all alone
She receives news that her husband will not be returning home
I heard a woman break down and pray to God and scream
What I feel it is so real, its in the air its not a dream...

Southern wind blows once
again and will until the end of time...

Conclusion of General Robert E. Lee's Farewell Address.

"You will take with you the satisfaction that proceeds from the conscience of duty faithfully performed, and I earnestly pray that a merciful God will extend to you his blessing and protection. With unceasing admiration of your constancy and devotion to your country, and a grateful remembrance of your kind and generous consideration for myself, I bid you an affectionate farewell."

Not many blends of voice and instrument on this earth can send legitimate chills up a man's spine. This is one of them...

Rebel Son - Rebel Soldier - From album 'All My Demons'

Oh Polly, Oh Polly it's for your sake alone
I have left my old father, my country, my home
I have left my old mother to weep and to mourn
I am a Rebel soldier, and far from my home

The grape shot and muskets and the cannons lumber loud
It's many mangled bodies a blanket for the shroud
It's many mangled bodies left on the fields alone
I am a Rebel soldier and far from my home

Instrumental interlude...

Here's a good old cup of brandy and a glass of wine
You can drink to your true love and I will drink to mine
You can drink to your true love and I will lament and moan
I am a Rebel soldier and far from my home

I will build me a castle on some green mountain high
Where I can see Polly when she is passing by
Where I can see Polly and help her to mourn
I am a Rebel soldier and far from my home....

Metal gets a bad wrap. Sometimes deserved. But mostly overlooked and miss-understood. I like it because of the emotion it captures.

Take this song as an example. Sad but powerful lyrics.

When the final illusion falls apart
When the world's at the end
And sent back to the start!
I'll be right where you need me.
You say you're trapped and it seems there is no way out
You've lost your will to live and found new doubts
I will bleed for you if I have to
This is my choice I'm willing to help you
Never say always!
All shall come to pass!
Never say always!
Beauty never lasts!
You don't know what's in my soul
And you can't hear what's in my head
I'll hold on to what's my own
Until the end, until I'm dead
When the final illusion falls apart
I'll be right where you need me!
I know our roads separated us
I know you hurt but this pain won't last
I can die for you if I have to
This is my price I'm willing to pay it
Never say always!
All shall come to pass!
Never say always!
Beauty never lasts!

Well put, I hear ya’, I get darkness (but as just “I” get it of course), I think great skill in comps and licks on players, creative, and in their way played out for sure. It’s not how I like to hang though, but I understand dark places...it takes a space I try not to stay in (unless it is needed to transition from), I kinda’ gotcha’ with it though??. Had to acknowledge it.

We all have music that speaks to/moves us. Metal doesn't do it for me, but know that it is the shit for some...rock on!
