I recently purchased a 22LR rifle

I plan to use it for hunting small game - squirrels / crow and such

for this application im kinda going to be constantly on the move (essentially taking hikes and shooting any food i happen to come across) so im looking for something that i can quickly acquire my target with but still have slight magnification its only a 22lr so figure 100 yards at most realistically but id also like to be able to engage at 25 yards as well

it has to be able to withstand water / cold - not lose zero / be reliable - reliability is an important factor for me

i was looking at the http://www.sigsauer.com/SigStore/cp1-prismatic-scope-395.aspx but i have ZERO experience with optics of that nature - im looking for advice as to what i should do to fulfill the goals listed above

thanks

Re: Sorta new to this platform looking for advice

maybe i could get that 3x sig scope zero it at 100yds and then put this http://www.sigsauer.com/SigStore/cpl-rm-classic-pistol-laser-405.aspx under the barrel and zero it at 50 or 25yds? just thinkin out loud at this point

What about a nice 3x9?

Depending on budget.....luepold are very rugged and they now make the redfeild scope which I have heard good things about.

Re: Sorta new to this platform looking for advice

Im not necessarily opposed to that idea - but like i said i have no experience with that sig scope so i dont know which would be better for my needs

i know i know i should go out and try them both - problem is i honestly dont have any friends that have anything like this to even try it

so what would you use?

for some reason i have this idea in my head that the sig scope is like a red dot scope which should make target acquisition quick and easy but is that just BS?

Re: Sorta new to this platform looking for advice

hmmmm just found this http://www.leupold.com/tactical/products/scopes/mark-4-hamr/mark-4-4x24mm-hamr/ - fits the requirements perfectly .........the price is killer however

what do you guys think of this on a 22lr rifle for hunting?

i watched a couple videos and they kept talking about how its set up perfectly for 5.56 im guessing that means the marks on the recital are ranged out for that round?

well anyone know of something similar i could check out? i really like the designed but the price is killer

+1.

My buddy bought a very affordable Redfield 2-7x ($179) for his 22LR and it's perfect for the application. Doing side-by-side comparisons, the glass was better than the VX-2.

I'd say more important is make sure you get quality rings and use quality ammo when hunting (e.g., at least mini-mags vs. bulk stuff).

Also, IMHO comparing 22LR to 5.56NATO -- is like comparing 5.56NATO to 338 Lapua Magnum...
