Anyone catch that last night ?

Man, I was gung ho back in my day but I honestly doubt I would have made it had I gone that route. I interviewed and filled out the paper in 1984 at Ft Devens MA, 10th grp - this show tells what the next step was - 14 days of hell - maybe 2hrs of sleep per day..

These guys went 14 days straight, 150lb ruck and carrying 600lbs between teams on a 6 mile round trip march, then to a 20 mile march.

Was pretty cool show, if they get accepted they then go through the year long course...

Reminded me of Pre-RIP,,wish I had gone there instead, sometimes
Had a lot of fun where I was.
We had some Sgts go back then,I was always hoping for a slot.
PRC 77 w KY encription, full load it adds up.
Throw in your ammo,food 4 2qts 2 2qts 1 5qt
Spare batteries
Will always have a great respect for the 18 types.

Heck I did that in Alaska, Always had a PRC, KY-57, KLK, spare batteries.

When 12th group came up and we trained them in cold weather I hooked up with the 18E to learn the TACSATCOM - since we only got to use it once a year.

But the most impressive guy was the medic - one of the guys lacerated his hand bad and he explained why he did not stitch it up.

The weapons man had an M40, not an A1, I will never forget him calling my name out and explaining he took a chest shot on me, headshot on our medic.

Good times, good people, but all in all I'm glad I went my route the way I did.

Still feel for these guys - psychologists watching them the entire way as well...

ArticLight I remember my first high speed cast, off the tail end of a Seafox. Doing 10 knots. I was so worried I'd lose the PRC 77 and KY 57. We had to swim in . Think we weighed our packs and mine was 120ish. Man was I surprised it floated.
Of course it was weather proofed,ie wp bag and those old OD heavy
plastic bags.
My dream slot was SF canoe/kayak course in FL I think it was.
Kept bugging to get that slot, but we never did get 1.

Re: Special Forces Selection course on Discovery

I completely understand that one!

I got assigned to replace the B CO commo sgt on a trip to the bush down at Ft Greeley - it's all burned out spruce back there and the little burned branches curl and are sharp - it shreds summer BDU's.
I did 20 clicks with a PRc, 2 spare batts (Lithium vs the longer one's), 1 spare KY, two spare batts for it, a click, a klak, and 3 or 4 CEOI booklets, no room for a type 3 bag and it was getting down to the 40's at night.

Crossed Jarvis creek just before we started so we had some serious clay in our BDU's..

I had no spare water other than the arctic canteen and the plastic one - 2 qts total.

That trip taught me one thing, carry a 2 quart bladder with you ALWAYS AND EVERYWHERE.

Luckily the TOW platoon guys had some poncho's up and someone brought a 1 burner coleman.

I went into town after we got back, got a 1 burner coleman, two lightweight fuel bottles, 2 quart collapsable and a spare 1 quart canteen.

I still carry those hunting, everywhere I go where I may have to be overnight in the woods! Nothing like a HOT MRE after a 20 click sweaty march and then the sun goes down.

Funny thing is, I had this ruck, about 120lbs or so, and I slipped on my backside on the ice (Mt boots were not gripping enough). I ended up in the docs office getting muscles crunched in my back)...

Good to know I wasn't the only one to hump that shit!

Re: Special Forces Selection course on Discovery

I rememer all the good and bad.Like being unable to be extracted due to a SEVER storm.Lasted 4-5 days, out of chow, very little water.
We did an E&E against the Regiment.
We got dropped of in pairs.
Well we had Cajun, great guy good fiend.
We got going. A mile or 2 in he turns to me.
(in a Cajun drawl) "You got a bumm knee. I be right back."
I'm like we got to get going...
Well he goes into the Regiment aid station, convinces them I need to be extracted..."Oh no I go get him"
Some how he got hold of a M151A1 jeep.
we were back in Talega drinking beer in 5 hrs.
It was a 4-6 day op.
