Anybody running speer 165 or 180gr spbt bullets in .308?

I've had excellent results to 300yds with them. I have friends that tell me they're great on deer. Speer claims .52bc for the 165 and .545bc for the 180. Are the BC's realistic?

I'd like find one do-it-all load for hunting and LR. These bullets look good on paper and they're cheap!!

Anybody know how they fly past 500?

Thanks,
LM

Re: Speer bullets

My rifles didn't like them as much as the Sierra bullets. Years ago I tried Sierra, Speer and Hornady bullets in my .308 and 30.06. The Sierra 168's were okay but the 180 grain (both were match bullets) gave me the best groups. My deer hunting load for the M1A ended up being the Sierra 165 grain spitzer boat tail.

Every rifle is different so yours may like Speer bullets. Then again, it also depends on what size groups are acceptable for the game/range you're shooting.

Re: Speer bullets

the first savage 110 I ever owned liked the speer 180gr BTSP's. It would print sub MOA groups @ 300 with them. I had quite a few 300 yds groups under 1". I'm going to try them again.

I'm hoping they'll shoot as good out of my current rifle.
