Is there any advantage or disadvantage to having this done? I really like the way it looks. I just dont want to do any harm on the bolt.

I have found a gunsmith local who will do it for $85 bucks is this a ok price?

Thanks Guys

Re: Spiral Fluting a Bolt Question

Only advantage is looks. Some say that it gives the dirt a place to go and wipes itself off. But if they are very deep the edges of the flutes are sharp and it will scratch and dent your brass when you open and close the bolt if it is a repeater.

If you decide to have it done I recomend Kampfeld Custom to do the fluting. He does the best that I have seen and turnaround is quick. I think his price is about the same as your local smith is.

It's all about the CDI factor. However, if you get the smith to do it, have him blend the edges so it doesn't rack your brass as much.
