Gunsmithing SS Action Rethreading to #8-40 Screws

My Smith has ruined 6 taps (brownells both the cheap ones and their High dollar one along with some Hansons and 1 $35 tap fron msc )On the first hole Three more to go!!! Any trade secret/tip, super lube, better tap, different drill size, Anything ???? I'm going tommorow to check it out. I want my 20 moa base with the #8-40 screws that came with it.The worst part is the front 2 holes are too far back and need to be plugged and moved. Hell any Smith want to tackle this mess?It's a Remmington SS long action and a 20 mos TPS rail. Sure as hell sombody can do this.

He's likely work hardened the holes from using dull tooling.

OR his choice of tapping fluid is really poor.

If that's the case then its going to be a tall order.

I can do it.
