black_ump,

That's some bad juju. But I see your in Erie PA. Your problem is all the snow there. It's throwing off the curvature of the earth, and making your crosshairs crooked and frozen. Solution: move where it's warmer.

I did, and I lived in Erie 1992-1995, I called it the time I was exiled to Siberia. But summers are great there in Erie, especially when they fall on a weekend.....

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

When you mount your scope you should have the proper tools. If you get one of those Wheeler Enginering Level kit, it makes sure the rifle is perfectly level. Then you put the scope in the rings and put the other level on the elevation turret. Then the scope is level. Tighten everything down and everything is level. Then if it is still canted when you get on your rifle, it is most likely you. Unless of course the reticle is canted in the scope.

unreal all that to level a scope hahahahaha </div></div>

before I had one of the kits and a vise, I propped the rifle up on a table so I could look through the scope......then leveled my rifle all directions with a <span style="font-weight: bold">bubble level</span>.....then hung a <span style="font-weight: bold">plumb bob</span> in front to plumb the reticle. Just use a string and a bolt or something. Some people just use a doorframe (a Swat captain I shoot with) for the vertical. Not hard if you take your time. I had two little plastic line levels I paid a dollar or two for at a hardware store. Works perdectly.

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

iam just going to level the rifle in a vise, once thats done level the scope and crank it down, iam not giving 100 dollers for a kit only to use it once in a great while

thanks all for the heads up... guess i have a project for tomarrow

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

Alternate your tightening pattern just like the lugs on your car/truck wheels. Over tightening one side first will torque your scope scope before it's set.

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

i went to the hardware store and bought a .99 keychain level and used that. there are guys here that use a feeler gauge under the scope on top of the base. i just level the rifle, level the scope, tighten a little and look thru it, shoulder it, get behind it, look thru it and if im ok with it all, level the rifle, check the level on the scope and tighten it all down. wont help now but i snagged the level-level-level for $10 on sale at midway. now its $14.99 i think

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

Get one of the USO levels that clamps to the rail. Put your rifle on the bags and hang a plumb line. Level the rifle using the picatinney level, then secure it. Rotate your scope until the verticle reticle is in line with the plumb line, check that your picatinney level is still centered and tighten the scope down. If it's a custom-made rig, and most of you guys are shooting custom sticks, the reticle should be centered over the bore and level.

</div></div>

Is this the setup you are referring to? If so, find a spot on your msg90-ish setup that is flat, level that in a vise or on bench and level the scope while the rifle's level.

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

I really think you should level your turrets to your rifle. If your crosshair is then crooked, you got a internal scope problem(canted reticle). If you do have a welded on rail, chances are, it is not perfectly at 12 o'clock to the rifle. Heat loves to twist and pull steel. Just saying, yours may actually be level. You'd have to verify it, for our inquiring minds to actually help you with problem.

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

hey all thanks for the help i will let you know tomarrow...... the rails where tig welded by a aero/space tig welder they seem true as i did get that idea as well.....

its to late now but ill let you know tomarrow

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

The trick with the feeler guages, while one of the greatest things since sliced bread (a machinist's parallel guage works even a little better I hear) for an application that has a rail (or other flat) underneath the scope, it doesn't do black_ump much good. He's got 2 pieces of 1913 rail welded to the top of an HK semi......

Your table isn't level?

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

hand a string/wire/cable with something heavy on the bottom and look at it through your scope, that best way to check. Let gravity do the work.

Thats funny. Some of these guys said that a few times and you got pissed off and told us to stay on target....

One of the first comments to you was an adjustable butt stock. That means a butt pad that can also tilt left or right.

I hope your sucking gets better for you.

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

If you're right handed and are shouldering it on your right shoulder, try doing so on your left shoulder, if it looks canted to the opposite side then you're good to go.

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

Just my opinion, but I thought the Wheeler level, level, level, was the biggest pos I ever spent money on.

I tried it on several rifles with the same result. Kind of cheesy if you ask me...which you didn't.

how can this be on an msg90 stock with a2 butt pad ? i dont see how that could be canted.

i tried the string thing and i suppose it looks ok. my rifle floats in the forarm it can tilt to the left and right and it makes it hard to do this, as far as the scope being level with the gun then yes it is, for some reason it just looks a little off for my eyes but iam not a pro at this so

Last week my wife went and had some nails put on (which she never wears) and I guess forgot about them because she went to squeeze my nuts and clawed me pretty bad. That sh*t HURT! That was the first and only time I've been angry while getting "sucked off". But not angry enough to stop her from finishing the transaction.

Looks to me as you're the only one from PA commenting in here!!!!

Try a new stock or shooting position. Unless you have chameleon eyes then its got to be one of two things..... your positioning on the rifle or you just cant get your scope level in the rings.

I would try out some new shooting positions and/or have someone else look at your scope setup. get a 2nd opinion!

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

after looking at it again ( i took a break ) and haveing some one else look at it, it is on..... dead center, the msg/psg platform takes a little bit compaired to your bolt gun... the rifle is allowed to float left and right ( rock left and right if you will ) and that is what i couldnt understand but iam good to go now

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

Glad you got it squared away and that it is correct.

That said...what do you mean that the rifle is "allowed to float left and right?" With a proper hold on the rifle, and using the handguard accessory rail, harris rail adapter and a BRM-S bipod, my MSG-90 clone is tight as a drum.

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

what i mean is when i shouler the weapon, grip the msg90 lower look threw the scope i can take my shooting hand and twist left and twist right and the receiver will rock a little to each side its not tight straight up and down

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

Isn't that a Not Good Thing to have it rock back and forth like that? Never handled one of those but seems that you'd want it to be solid when you gripped the forend? Seems like it would be hard to have consistant holds from shot to shot.

Is that something designed into the gun for some reason? I'm just curious since you mentioned it and you found a solution to the crosshair alignment problem.

Re: starting to get pretty freakin sucked off

No...there should not be that kind of slop between the receiver and the trigger group housing/grip.

BU...did you get an actual MSG-90, clipped/pinned trigger group housing (completely assembled or otherwise) or did you use another type for your build?

the "slop" is in the forarm where the trunion extension, the trunion extension was bough off gordon miller.

its not in the lower trigger group, but when i grab the lower i can twist the gun back and forth inside the forarm is where iam talking about

its the forarm twisting its self, i let some one else do it and its the foarmarm. harris bipod is out on the vary end of the forarm.

idk thats the best i can tell ya
