I am trying to decide between two stocks, the McMillan A5 and the Manners MCS-T1. I am leaning towards the A5 just because I dont know much about the T1. I am wondering if the T1 might be less solid compared to the A5, as I have held the A5 stock before and it was pretty solid. The gun's purpose will mainly be shooting paper, but it will also be my hog, deer, yote, etc. gun as well. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I'll take this chance to tell you guys what I'll be putting on the stock: Fac. Rem 700 .308 action and barrel off of a SPS Tac, x mark adjustable trigger, Falcon Menace 5x25x50 EMD, BO rings and base, and harris bipod...oh and a varmiter knob from AZPrecision which is a beaut, Keith did a great job! I know its not much, but its a work in progress and im going to shoot the shit out of what I got. Thanks guys

GURU is right, they arent flimsy, I would be happy w/ either to be honest, but I really like the ergonomics of the MCM A4, my next build will prob. be on a MCS t2 though. It all comes down to what feels right in your hands.

Re: Stock decision

In way shape or form is a Manners stock "less solid" than an A5.

I can tell you this much, with the Manners Mini Chassis System and any of their stocks, you basically have a drop in, detachable mag, ready to rock and roll setup. You don't mention what bottom metal you are using, but I'm assuming its the factory Remington stuff, and if that is the case, you will need to have an A5 bedded. MCM doesn't offer a chassis, and will require you do have extra work done. Even if you buy after market bottom metal (Badger or Williams or whatever) you will still have to have the rifle bedded in an A-5.

I don't really see how anyone can turn down a Manners T4A with the Chassis from a financial perspective. The Chassis and T4A come to 975. Either a MCM A4 or A5 with adjustable cheek inletted for a S700 and Badger bottom metal will be just shy of 800. Add in the Badger bottom metal (350) plus Bedding (150-200) and you are talking a conservative 1275. Basically the same setup, one is 300 bucks more and a longer wait.

But above all, before you make a decision, you need to find someone with the stocks you are considering buying. Fit and function always come before cost. There is no point in wasting money on something that doesn't fit you right.
