Sadly you would be mistaken, they don't have the helicopter parenting mentality that many in the US seem to think is normal.
I have seen women and children riding in the back of a pickup going down a dangerous highway in southern Mexico with no one in the front seat but the male driver. Totally different mentality.
You asked about third world mentality. I share a couple of pictures from Cambodia. I am glad the breadwinner is wearing the helmet so the family will have income coming in, seatbelts for the two babies. The second picture, well...how big a family can you fit on a 125cc scooter? I agree that the mother should not have exposed her children to the volatile situation, but it makes for a great news story for the liberal media. Would not surprise me if they paid her to drag the two kids into the line of fire.

We used to do that as teenagers, it was way more fun to be standing up in the back of the truck holding on to frame behind the cab and attempting Roman salutes for fun rather than sit in the hot cab with no air conditioning.

Around here however you are more likely to see several workers that can't fit in the cab (of the south of the border persuasion) sitting in the bed of the truck with the rest crammed into the cab.

We would ride in the back of a pickup plenty when I was a kid as well, the stretch of highway I was referring to however was a farging death trap.
Me and my relief would take pictures of the carnage and share them with each other, we reffered to it as the Mexican NASCAR circuit.

The Mexican government is in a real pickle now. They have to spend money to deport them or house and feed them.. and/or worse deal with the escalating crime and filth. A hispanic friend of mine just text me "Stupid Mexicans --never should have let them in in the first place!"

Hmmm wonder if they will be willing to pay for a wall.......

They don't mind loosing a kid here and there, they breed like rats.
