Stupid Question but I have to break down and ask..

OK... the term "DOPE"

Only thing I have found was

Date On Personal Equipment

is there more to this???? I've heard someone say "He has no DOPE on this setup or rifle before...

Sorry for the ignorance... I am new to long range shooting, but have shot all my life... Please someone put this term to bed for me...

No no no...that's all wrong it's Data On Prior/Previous Engagement. Basically it's the known elevation and windage data for a rifle through many different environmental conditions based on prior range trips and experience. It takes a good while to build accurate and reliable dope for a rifle but this is where a data book and some of the other products out on the market make it handy.
