I posted this story on another thread, and after I did I got to thinking that maybe it would be better served in a thread by itself. I've worked in the medical field for the last 20 plus years, and have seen the results of stupid decisions people have made with firearms. Some are tragic, and some are funny. Thought a thread devoted to this would make for some interested reading. Here's one such story.

There are generally a lot of turkey shoots held around my area in the fall and this is when this incident took place. These two knuckle-heads were at a turkey shoot and at some point one of them bet the other that he could hold the target and not drop it while the other one shot it. So he gets behind a big pine tree and holds the 2 by 6 block of wood the target was mounted on out from behind the tree. The other genius shot it with a 12 gauge and #9 shot. Distance was about 60 feet. The victim, if you can call him that, had over 50 pellets in his hand and lower wrist. When this guy came to the hospital there was a universal feeling among us that he should have taped the target to his head.

I read a newspaper story on a criminal who tried to car jack and the people inside refused to cooperate so the douchebag used his pistol butt in an attempt to break out the sidewindow. The gun went off and the problem solved itself for all concerned , killing the carjacker.

Some years back we had a guy come into the E.R. DOA. He was the driver of a vehicle and he and his posse were conducting a drive-by shooting when one of his homies hung a 45 out the passenger window and over the top of the car firing wildly toward the targets who were on the drivers side. One of his rounds went through the top of the car and through the drivers head. Driver was killed instantly of course and the car wrecked. Rest of thugs fled after impact. That's street justice.

Re: Stupid things people do with firearms.

Had a case in the north bay involving a side by side shotgun with barrels cut down to about 6 inches. In foot pursuit he went over a fence and hooked the trigger which dumped a load of 7 1/2 shot into his groin and upper thigh. Pretty much removed any chance of him contributing to the gene pool. I give the dude credit, they put him in the ER without a guard since he was so messed up and he escaped about 6 hours later by walking out the door.....
