Got it, we're tracking on that, my question should have been more specific - how do I unlock it? You'll have to excuse my ignorance, I've never had a high end scope like this before with the lock ring style focus. Like I said in my OP, I just don't want to force it and render the scope less than fully functional.
Added - do I need to turn this thing clockwise or counterclockwise, if holding the scope from the rear, to unlock it? It is quite snug and I am wary of turning in the wrong direction and putting too much pressure on it.
