Rifle Scopes SWFA SS HD 5-20 Reticle Focus

Re: SWFA SS HD 5-20 Reticle Focus

I don't have one, but on their webpage it say that the ocular adjustment is "Locking" style, so you'll have to unlock it before you can adjust.

Just a guess here, but the ring behind the mag adjust probably loosens up to allow for ocular adjustment

I'm sure someone will chime in soon to verify on how to unlock it!

I've got a SS 5-20. That's correct. There is a lock ring behind the magnification ring that you loosen, then the whole ocular can turn to focus the reticle. Once focused, you tighten the lock ring down to lock your focus.

And it is not a very fast adjusting diopter. Spend some time and get it right, or the reticle will be hard to see on the low end side. Remember to take a couple of breaks, completely off the rifle for a minute or two, to make sure you have it focused.

Got it, we're tracking on that, my question should have been more specific - how do I unlock it? You'll have to excuse my ignorance, I've never had a high end scope like this before with the lock ring style focus. Like I said in my OP, I just don't want to force it and render the scope less than fully functional.

Added - do I need to turn this thing clockwise or counterclockwise, if holding the scope from the rear, to unlock it? It is quite snug and I am wary of turning in the wrong direction and putting too much pressure on it.

Re: SWFA SS HD 5-20 Reticle Focus

Thanks for the replies. I actually just focused it right before I saw your reply. I decided looking at it the threads had to be oriented as you said and very gingerly pulled on it until it unlocked. It was VERY tight from the factory and I was initially under the impression there was no ocular focus, it was so tight.
