CS Tactical beat me to this by a couple days, but here it is, I have seen way to many pictures on the Hide with folks and their TAB slings on backwards.
Sling (sling)
noun
a primitive instrument for throwing stones, etc., consisting of a piece of leather tied to cords that are whirled by hand for releasing the missile
☆ slingshot
the act of throwing with or as with a sling; cast; throw; fling
a looped or hanging band, strap, etc. used in raising and lowering a heavy object or for carrying, supporting, or steadying something: a rifle sling
Listen Up, or we are going to revoke your tactical cool operator cards.
Do you have rifles that look as sexy as this?
or to seek the admiration or others like this?
or even something so bad ass as a laser designator to show off on the internet?
Well, nothing will make you look more foolish than having your sling installed backwards.
Check it out folks, a sling carries your rifles as a secondary bonus, thats right, you have two hands to preform that function.
The slings primary function is to use as a shooting aid. Proper deployment of a sling is seldom posted here, mostly because bi-pods kick ass and can be utilized is every single environment, every single circumstance, and has completely made a sling obsolete....wait,.....no it hasn't.
Well, here it is for the folks who have everything except but the knowledge of how a sling works.
First, you put the sling on your rifle, like so.
The slider must be able to slide down against your arm, behind the bicep, to lock the sling to your arm. I have heard such asinine posts that the sling don't work, the slider does not work properly. It is because your not using it right!!!!!!! Turn the thing around, and try again, you might be surprised.
Next, give the sling a 90 degree twist to create a cradle for your hand.
If you use a AI stock, or have a swivel on the right forend of your stock, attatch your sling here, as this causes a twist in the slings, and forms the cradle naturally, like so:
Next, slide the slider tight against the bicep. If your sling keeps sliding down off your bicep, it is because it is small, do some pull ups, and try again later.
Shoulder your rifle, and see if it is tight. You should be in extreme discomfort as you force the butt pad into your shoulder. Do not be alarmed, this is weakness leaving your body. If the sling is not tight, it is not working.
The sling will fit differently, when shooting from the sitting position, as opposed to firing off hand. The sling tension should be set up in the position you will be firing from most, for me, that is the sitting position. While standing, it will be looser, just do to the positioning of the arms and shoulders.
Practice dry firing from the sitting position, from either the Army or Marine postion, which ever you find more comfortable. My digital camera battery died, so I did not expound on this topic, but can be shown in this demonstration by CS Tactical.

your TAB sling does more than add decoration to your rifle. Its primary purpose is a shooting aid. Use it as such.
