Precision Rifle Gear Tango Innovations FIRE4000 WMLRF Initial Impressions

Seems pretty thorough. I like it.

But he didn’t mention the Achilles heel of on-board weather: solar loading. It didn’t appear that he was even aware of the phenomenon?

As mentioned before, many people will have a kestrel for weather anyway, and you can easily clear the kestrel of solar loading, body heat, whatever by simply spinning it for a very short while.

Thanks for sharing, man!

You can lock the temperature on the Unit to prevent this. I have no idea why you think this is an issue that cannot be overcome.

Gonna guess you still don’t own a WMLRF

Hey people . I know this isn’t the place but just heads up to anyone looking to get the fire4000 . All I can say is don’t it’s a huge piece of crap . First one suffered from there very well documented Bluetooth connection problem . So they sent me a new one that supposedly went through two quality control tech before it made its way to me . Well new has the same exact problem even worse than the first one . So I’m returning and forgetting I ever bought this piece of junk !

It’s hard to believe a device with zero onboard ballistics and sensors that completely relies on a support device over Bluetooth was a bad idea.

No one could have ever predicted that……..

If we're getting atmospherics from the kestrel why not ballistics? Seems logical to link one device and be updated. I know it will draw from it while connected but I'd rather not worry about that besides updating environment.

I'm fine with no sensors on the Tango 4k but again I'd rather just update with one device. Not to mention several places I shoot have poor or no cell service. I don't want to rely on my phone for it to work properly.

Same as with the Burris PS, they make it so you have to use the app. Which is fine because it's much easier to do on a phone but it makes you reliant on a phone. I like simplicity and resundancies.

If you’re in external mode, you’re getting both atmo and ballistic data from the kestrel. The only thing tango does is range and display the kestrel solution.

The internal mode is really only there for the people without a kestrel or some other AB device I.e Garmin 401 etc

I don’t understand.. it does exactly that in internal mode. Has your profile loaded and it saves the last atmo info you’d put in.

With the app, not with the Kestrel. Correct?

I would prefer to use the full feature set without ever using my phone.

Not common but we do have some 30-40* temp swings in a 12hr span here in Ohio. 20* swing is very common. Be nice to not have to connect my phone, change temp, then kestrel for weather.

At that point I'll just use my 50* dope card and add or take away a tenth at 1k for every 12* or so.

PS: I kinda hate technology, at the same time really like some of the advancements it brings us 😂

Correct, you have to either use the phone (once) or kestrel (active connection). I thought I kinda ran through that in the main post. If you don’t want to use either for whatever reason, Vortex checks that box but doesn’t use AB.

I see you edited your answer, again, the last part is incorrect, you don’t have to do that. Either run it in external and let kestrel update everything, or run in internal and just update the temp on phone.

Yes I am aware. Seems like a small firmware update could be an easy fix to this.

Yeah, the Vortex gen 2 perhaps. Its cold half the year here and I do most of my long range after harvest in the fall so the Impact 4k is a no go.

Fix what? Either I’m completely misunderstanding what you think you have to do in order to update temp on the unit or you are misunderstanding the work flow.

I think he's just saying that he would prefer to have the option of setting up the unit in internal mode (uploading a single profile and locking in the environment) using the kestrel instead of having to use the phone app.

Ranged from under 100yd out to over a mile. Consistently reads 4-6yds long, my Leica and Vortex Fury are within a yard of each other along with a 4000HD and others.

Ranged well at 1086, 1390, and 1814. Always a quick return every time. The 2075 was a pine tree and hard to get a hit but I did more than once.

Mine also ranges long quite consistently.

The Vortex Impact had a bit more ranging power but the Fire4000 has more than enough for me.
