If I'm using a 20 MOA picatinny rail to mount my scope is it going to afect the elevation adjustment??
Lets say my Ballistic calculator says I need to dial up 2.5MOA to shoot 300yd. If I use the 20 MOA rail it will still be 2.5MOA or is it going to be different??

Re: Technical Question

No it will not effect it because your ballistic program is giving you an elevation adjustment based of of your zero, so as long as your rifle is zeroed with the 20MOA base on it then it will be the same

Re: Technical Question

Same.

If your scope has 100MOA of total elevation travel, and you center the reticle, you have 50MOA adjustment down and 50MOA adjustment up. With a 20MOA base, you still have the same 100MOA total range, but now you have 70 up and 30 down. You haven't gained or lost elevation adjustment, you've just moved things around so that you have more useful travel.

If you zero at 100 yards, there will be no need (other than minor zero adjustments) to spin the turrets down - this isn't true if you zero at 600 yards. SO, a 20MOA base gives you more upward adjustment range by taking away downward adjustment range 0 which you won't use anyway in most cases.

The bullet drop is the same whether you add a canted base or not -so the dope change (with a few minor exceptions) will remain the same.
