I have been working on locating accuracy nodes and working up a load using conventional bench-rest hardware (front rest and rear bag) for a 9 lb. hunting rifle. I realize that my point of impact may shift when I bolt on a hunting bipod - but was wondering if the actual tune of the rifle and load change as well?

I agree, QuickLOAD is a terrific investment....but how does this address the OP's question?

To the OP: I don't know how your particular rifle will react to having a bipod mounted vs. not. I will tell you this. When I was shooting my 6.5 CM off a bag last fall I figured out that if I kept my bipod hanging on the free float tube (when the rifle was rested on the bag), my groups opened up considerably. I don't think it is so much a question of barrel harmonics as how the rifle acted during recoil.

Another point to consider is that you will get different results when you change the place your rifle is rested (how far forward or rearward)...so you may see a change when you switch between bag and bipod if you are not positioning your bag in the extact same location your bipod connects -- even if the bipod itself as a rest isn't causing the change.

Make sense?

Quickload helps with accuracy nodes. Helps find them too.

Re: Technical Rifle Tuning Question

no buddy i do not believe adding a bipod will have a significant effect on your nodes

the nodes, from the OBT perspective , is about the traveling p-wave or distortion wave that moves up and down your barrel as a result of vibrations. My understanding is the vibrations stop or vibrate between the end of the muzzle and at the face of the action , so how would adding a bipod change that ? it wouldn't unless you has one of those clamp-on barrel mounted bipods.

I'm not saying adding a bipod won't effect accuracy or POA/POI ,but i am saying it would not effect your barrel times.

Re: Technical Rifle Tuning Question

The way you're bipod is going to affect the rifle is if the forend of the stock is flimsy and while shooting from the bipod the rifle barrel touches the stock.

Otherwise, it should not cause issues.

Some of the smallest groups that I've ever cut came off an LR_Accuracy bipod and rear bag.
